Blayneb,

One technical question, can you compare the CVS shields to the Depends Shields or the Tena shields. All three are available t CVS locally. Thanks.

Hi Buster, thanks for the insights and information. Would you say that it took about a month to start noticing better continence control? Because I'm only 2 weeks along, I feel still very frustrated and unable to fulfill a lot of my duties. Oh my gosh you had one big prostate at over 200 grams wow it must have been unbearable. Thanks again for your response and God bless you and your family

Sure Buster, I have tried Depends and CVS. Never tried Tena. I much prefer the CVS (believe it or not). The Depends have strong adhesives but seem thinner, thereby leading me to believe they may be less absorbent. The CVS have enough adhesive to be effective while being a little thicker than the Depends and seem to be able to hold a lot of urine (though of course I try not to push them too far changing when I start to feel uncomfortably wet - usually I use 1 to 2 a day, one all night after my shower and then I wear that until late afternoon when I change until my evening shower). I used the Depends one time and immediately went back to CVS. I don't plan on using any others. Hope this is helpful! All the best to you.

Everyone is different but I left for a three day road trip two weeks after surgery. For safety sake I used paper underwear on the trip. After the trip I started using just a pad. So I can say I within the first month month I started to improve. I was doing my pelvic floor exercises all the time. That should have helped. I tend to be cautious so I am using a Tena brand pad during the day and a shield at night. The ad is shaped like a triangle so that it has a better chance of catching urine. The Depends did not work well for me.

I used Depends at first but they were long and narrow compared to the Tena. This meant the pad was between my legs which was uncomfortable. Is the shape of the CVS brand similar to the Depends?

I had retrograde ejaculation, which I already had before the HoLEP due to taking 2 medications Tamsulosin and Finasteride.
So in my case there were no change after the Holep.

I also want to say that some days are better than others. Successes are small, like the first day I got out of the shower and did not drip. Healing, I am told, depends on a number of factors such as age, how long the surgery took, and how much tissue was removed. I also believe a good attitude will help.

Yes, I am glad you recommended Dr Miller to me. We both had excellent results with no incontinence and very little of bleeding, compared with i a lot of men on this forum which used other surgerons.
I am very happy with my results after my Holep surgery at Vanderbilt.
The only negative, I do get less sleep now. Before the surgery I got up to pee after about 3-4 hours, now I sleep 5-6 hours before going up to pee, and having hard time to get back to sleep. I hope I can train my bladder to go 7 hours without getting up.

CVS ones appear almost identically shaped to the Depends Buster, just with a slightly thicker pad.

I had holep on Tuesday of this week. My issue started March 9th, with a bad bladder infection, and a complete shutdown of my ability to urinate. I ended up going to the ER to get a catheter. My prostate was around 80 grams.I am 57. I made one attempt during the first week to go without the catheter which finally failed after 3 days of misery and another trip to the ER for another catheterization. At this point it became clear I needed to find a resolution. I visited the urologists. They quickly suggested surgery, I saw no reason to hesitate. We scheduled it as quickly as we could. I spent two months with a catheter. My early assessment of the success after just the fourth day. Fantastic!! I am blood free today, I am urinating easily and have little or no leakage. The first day I was on the full paper undergarment and leaking considerably, which was discouraging, but one must be patient. I am down to one small adhesive pad in my underwear but really not leaking noticeably. I get up once during the night, maybe out of force of habit, and hopefully good sleep will come back. When wearing the catheter my sleep quality was somewhat reduced. Anyone hesitating to get Holep, don't. I will follow up in a month or so with another report.

That's great Feedguy1. Glad to hear you're doing so well. Just a word of clarification? When you say you spent 2 months with a catheter, was that post op, and now you're 4 days out after post-op cath removal? I had a catheter in for 3 days post-op.

The catheter was pre op. This doctor is very busy, and I was unable to get in as quick as we would have liked of course. My post op catheter came out 24 hours after the surgery. Today I am noticing more pain on urination,(not severe) and an uptick in the spasms. The leaking is now negligible. I change my "mini pad" once per day.

Yes --- we got very lucky with Dr Miller!! She is at the top of her game!! I could not have asked for better.

I find that I must get up several times a night to void but I partially attribute that to the fact that I drink large amounts of fluid each evening in order to get my fluid balance back after long days of sweating out in the heat. Sometimes I don't have to go an enormous amount but it is just enough to keep me from going right back to sleep.
Interestingly, I find my bladder rather sensitive and I find that I often go fairly frequently during the day also, although the volumes are probably not more than a couple of hundred milliliters. I can hold it much longer but I just don't care for that constant tickle reminding me. I do have an excellent flow rate and I feel like I empty my bladder completely.
I don't really understand why my bladder is so sensitive but I am overjoyed that I have not difficulty urinating and no incontinence issues.

I send you best wishes as time marches on.
