I have scoliosis and an extra vertebrate. I found out while I was at an urgent care because I thought I had strep. The doctor noticed my posture and asked if he could X-ray my back I said of course! So it turned out I had scoliosis. So he told me to see another doctor about it and that doctor told me I had an extra vertabrae.

Yes, I injured my back in the military in the 70's and not till 86 I had surgery for a L4L5 disc cause of the pain. Dr's kept giving pain pills. The pain persisted and in 2010, I had enough and started seeing Dr's again this time I had xRays, shots and pills. Then one Dr looked at the X-rays and said I have a sixth vertebrae which is probable causing all the trouble, go figure it took that long to find this out. So I retired after 36 years in law enforcement . Just got to learn to live with it and WATCH the pill taking.

You could have surgery, but there would be a possibility of being paralyzed so I think it would be safer to endure it. I have to pop my lower back daily because of this. If i don't, my lower back will lock up for about 30 seconds. I learned about my L6 because a chiropractic

hi - yes we are not as many as have this extra part and many doctors do not know anything about it - many say it is completely painless as it certainly is not, we are here to help me with this group so we can get some knowledge out - I'm an old lady is not good at English but thought we should try getting into a network and share experiences

Hi: I have an extra vertebrae and A neg blood type. I also have a double curvature scoliosis. I control the pain with massage, yoga stretches and tramadol. I was told I would be in a WC by age 60. I'm 62 and still WC free. What do you think the connection is between the extra vertebrae & blood type? I am the only one in my family with these characteristics. I am interested in your thoughts on this subject. thank you

I have had lower back pain that radiates into my legs for the past ten years now. I was going to a DO and had had x-rays and was being adjusted once a month. I just recently started going to a new DO where they took new x-rays and the doctor actually looked at them. I too found out I had an extra vertebrae. Nothing seems to really take away the pain, but they are sending me to a pain clinic and an Osteopathic Clinic. The doc says the injections they use will help eliminate the pain. We will see......until then I live with the pain and take Vicoden when it gets too bad.

Please be careful with getting the epidurals for pain management. I too went to a pain clinic for pain meds, but they insisted I get epidurals first. On the 3rd one the physician nicked the nerve with the needle. The pain was excruciating and for several weeks I had to drag that leg. I was very scared it would stay that way. I never went back after that. Even if that doesn't happen to you, the results are temporary. Good luck

Hi,
I just learned today that I also have the 6th lumbar vertebrae. I have been struggling with a foot injury since Feb 2007 and the foot could just never heal. Then the physio discovered that I injured the metatarsal on the side of the left foot. My body is pulling towards the opposite side and to compensate for this when I walk my foot overextends slightly to even up when I step. This is so frustrating because I have been to scans, doctors and physios.

I will now go see an Orthotist to make me a foot mould to even up the step. Hopefully this helps with the constant pain.

All of the best to you

Kind regards
