I've had this going on for over a year.  Went to the ENT last year.  After steroids and antibiotics did nothing, I had 2 MRIs and a Doppler ultrasound.  Doc diagnosed me with "curvy carotid artery."  The artery over time has curved closer to the eardrum and so I can hear the sound of blood pulsing through.  It's harmless, but it has gotten worse and is really affecting the hearing in that ear, so I'm going to go back to the ENT.

I'm with you. I had an Aortic valve replacement 1 1/2 yrs ago. Prior to the sugery I had a very bad murmur that caused a whoosing that people talk about. Now post surgery I had have a thumping in my left hear but can also feel it in my chest and neck. It is the most aggravating thing ever. My cariologist has lowered myblood pressure down into the high 50s and low 60s which also lowered my bloodpressure with medication but now after 5 months the banging is back strong as ever. Not able to sleep. The nonstop banging is unbelievable. I think I'm going crazy.

I had this before too, I was upset over the death of 2 friends and upon crawling into bed to sleep, I heard the whooshing of my blood traveling throughout my body, including hearing my own heartbeat, and pulse. The sound was louder than if you were talking normal to me. I had never heard or experienced this before, it DID sound like an ultrasound of a baby, as when I was pregnant before. I noticed I could focus my attention to particular place inside my body to listen, and that would be what I hear more loudly, like blood flowing through my veins, even more than the heartbeat, and vise versa. After getting out of bed to turn the a/c on to mask the noise I went back to bed, fell asleep, woke up next morning and it was gone, never heard it again. I thought I was the only one, or very few who ever experienced this, my friends thought I was crazy, what was I on they asked. Of course nothing! I prayed for healing that night, and it went away on it's own.

I have the same exact problem. I have been to doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist. I also get migraine headaches. But this noise in my ear sometimes become so unbearable that I have bought ear plugs and I have found that this helps but then you can't hear.

To all with this problem: I had a virus infection in my left ear several years ago, and ever since then I get the whooshing sound in that ear from time to time.  What I've found by trial and error, is that when I eat meals with high salt, the whooshing sound is very noticeable.   However, when I stay away from very salty foods, I don't notice the sounds at all.  I would try changing your diet to lower your salt intake.  That might help a bit with the sounds in your ears.

This too happened to me. The only thing I did was an elimination diet. I found that there are a few things that were causing me pain when consumed : Nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) caused the heartbeat in my head, leg pain almost like electrical current inside and on skin, neck cracking and pain. Onions, shallots, and garlic (I know, this sucks that I have to give up these foods) gave me pimple like lesions everywhere and really tough headaches. avacados gave me severe stomach cramps, and bananas gave me canker sores everytime I consumed one. The doctors did not find these things out that I am allergic to. THe only thing that they found out that I was allergic to was Pork =( and buckwheat.. The leg cramps, I was prescribed a pill (btw I took no medication because I only have 1 kidney) , the pimples/rash I was prescribed a cream, the headaches and heartbeat they found nothing and wanted to do a mri and I couldn't afford the copay. the avocado pain I had a stomach mri at the hospital. found nothing. gave me a pill to take before I ate every meal. The heartbeat went away, the pain in my legs went away, the stomach cramps go away. If I want a food I eat it, but suffer for a few days. you can try it, or you can continue to not know, and waste money on tests, and go years with the stupid heartbeat. I hated it. doctors told me I needed to see a shrink, they said I am ocd. I am not any of these things. and I gave up asking them for help.

I had the same problem as you. I was in ENT and did several tests, and he told me that everything was ok. but I kept hearing a beat on my left ear. researching, I found this forum and read that it could be sinusitis, so I cleaned my room and my office (places I get most often) and went to sleep. When I woke up the other day, the beat had stopped. days later, I entered a dusty car and the beat back the same day. when I went to a clean place, hit was stopping gradually.
I did not go back to the ENT to see if I have sinusitis, rhinitis but I have, and found that the mucus rhinitis causes can go into the ear and cause beats.
I would like to thank everyone, because this forum helped me a lot. hope you heal up soon too, because no one deserves these beats hell.

I have continuous "squishing" with each heartbeat in my right ear also. Was eased when osteopath did some cranial adjustments (have had other head "pain" etc that needed attention). Last visit she worked on lower cervical spine (C7) and squishing has returned. I have another appointment next Wednesday so am going to get her to do the cranial work again and see if the squishing deminishes. Will post with results.
I am hoping your experience is the answer and hopefully next week will verify this.

I started hearing my heartbeat in my right ear years ago. I told my doctor about it and he had no idea what would be causing this. It has since went away and its been over 10 years. On occasion I still will hear this, but it's very rare. My teenage daughter recently started taking birth control pills due to extremely long periods, and in the first few weeks she mentioned that she could hear her heartbeat in her ear. I have never mentioned my problems with that to her and looking back it was when I started taking my pills-for the first year or two. I see that it is very common among pregnant women as well. I assume now, that is it hormonal or due to increas in blood flow. It must be harmless as mine has gone away and so has my daughters.

No, not really. There are a lot of reasons someone may hear their own heartbeat and most of the time, it's not the worst case scenario. That's like saying "that headache you're feeling is actually a malignant brain tumor." Sure, it could be, but it's probably not.
