Hello I had minds done 10-13-16 for the first time. I had my big toe which was a hammer toe broke and a bunion removed. Now in 2 weeks the stitches was removed and the 4th week the pin came out. Its a slow healing process. I can't wear a shoe yet but with shoe they gives you I wears that and now without my cane I can walk. It feels better when you walk on your heels. Hello I had this surgery june 1st 2017. I was in paid about 2 days. Standing for long periods, made my foot swell up. My job consist of standing all day. I have been out of work. Go back july 28th. I hate the floppiness, it's awful. What I've been doing is keeping each toe taped. It's July 23rd, and I still keep them taped.
When I go back to work I'll have to wear closed shoes, I'll tape them.
Good luck, let me know if you here of any updates on what to do.
Megan

Hi,
I had a cobb stainsby operation in January 2017 my second operation in two years to correct a plantar plate tear in my second toe.
After the second operation my toe has become floppy and painful. I am now unable to walk without a crutch and finding appropriate shoes is a nightmare.
My surgeon has said basically this is the best it will be, so I am going to have to live with it! I just feel so let down. If I had known this was it I would not have gone through the second surgery. I have not heard about any pining but I think having more surgery would concern me.

Question: why does toe act floppy after pin is removed? And how long does it take for big toe to heal after pin is removed?

Hi Roch74,
I have the floppy toe, no pins, 2 toes on each side. I'm only 2.5 week out of surgery. Your post now has me worried that I'll have this for years! My doctor said it should fuse together naturally and come down. Has that not been your experience? Is there an update?
Thank you so much.

I had surgery 36 years ago for mallet toes and hammertoes and the podiatrist totally botched the surgery by resecting too much of the joints on my third and fourth toes of each foot instead of just releasing the tendon as I was told by another physician. Not only are my toes unsightly but they are very uncomfortable, the third toe sometimes going into a 90 degree angle. I have tried uselessly over the years to find a doctor who might fix them and recently one podiatrist said he could, but has no previous experience doing this type of surgery. I have learned to live with it but it is really disappointing, particularly when summer rolls around and I can't wear open-toed shoes and feel comfortable going barefoot. Wish I had never had the surgery!
