I am facing foot fusions in both feet due to huge bone spurs on top of feet behind my toes. I do not have a problem with my toes, but the huge bumps on top of both feet are very painful. I have heard people say NOT to due the fusion, which involves cutting and fusing bones, and has a long recovery that is not always successful. I need to hear from anyone that has had this surgery and whether it has helped or you are sorry that you did it. Please, take a minute to tell me your experiences. I am a teacher and have no idea what to do about my job, as both feet have to be done and the drs  won't do them at the same time....

So what did you decide to do?

I can understand why you would need one done at a time. Cos it's like fixing a broken bone.   I was meant to have one fusion and one  cheilectomy - but instesd the surgeon decided to do a  cheilectomy on both and 6 months later the one needing a fusion is still causing me bother and still not bending. Got to have forced manipulation under a general - and it has a 50/50 chance of helping or making it worse and if it fails I need a fusion...which will be from start to finish  almost 2 years total before I can hope to be back to some level of normality! So my advice is ask firm questions...

imo I really wish I just had a fusion - one lot of pain! But I had 2 feet messed with - you can get around fairly okay one one foot...but no feet is reallt difficult!

The biggest plus side from my siurgery is no more painful bone spur lumps - my feet feel more comfortable and there is no pain now at night. Every step was painful before so even what I had done helped...but I can't run right now cos it hurts...if the offered me a fusion tomorrow I'd be there. Better then mucking around trying to save a joint that is too badly damaged.

Expect the recovery time back to your idea of 'normal' to be much much longer then they what they tell you! End of the day I doubt we can get these to be perfect cos the joint is damaged..but if we get some improvement it is good. But it is risky. Ask lots of questions.
