Hi. My close relative had a brain damage, due to an accident, and he fell into coma. His eyes are closed and he is not aware of anything, I think. Doctor said his coma is classified as moderate and he said he was using the Glasgow coma scale. What is that? I would like to hear some info about GCS.
Hi. Glasgow coma scale is a neurological scale. It shows the level of consciousness of a patient, following brain injury. It is a simple scoring system, easy to use. Elements of Glasgow coma scale are three values – eye, verbal and motor responses. Comas are classified as severe with GCS 13. Coma is defined as the patient is not opening his eyes, not uttering understandable words, and not obeying commands.
What do they mean by brain stem activity in a coma patient?
