Hello, folks. My friend has been suffering from chronic myelogenous leukemia. I have heard about Gleevec. I hear it is highly efficient anti-cancer agent. I wonder if this is true. Can anyone provide me some more information about this? Your help is more than welcomed. I would appreciate all your replies.
Hello. You have heard well. Gleevec is indeed highly effective anti-cancer agent. Some people say that it has revolutionized the course of CML therapy. It inhibits the activity of abnormal, mutant protein called Bcr/Abl. This protein is considered to be responsible for the disease. However, in time, people become resistant to Gleevec. It is caused by further mutation of this protein. I hope this helps. Bye!
