7 weeks ago I had a haemorrhoidectomy done. I have had nothingbut painand discomfort and was told that I would probably be back at work in three weeks. Went to specialist who gave me a gel that I had been using prior to surgery who said this would take away spasming. I am still taking medication as every time I go to the toilet it is still extremely painful. Should I seek another opinion or just wait another few weeks to see if it going to get any better. I have been at this plateau for the past three weeks. He doesn't seem to be concerned. There is no infection but the pain is just terrible. I cannot go back to work and am now perhaps looking at looking at losing my job. My employer told me he did not want to see me again for two weeks, is extremely angry with me not being at work and has put on a temp for four weeks. How much longer will this pain last and I don't believe that the recovery should take this long. Not only can I not do a great deal for myself but I cannot work. I am a single parent, paying a mortgate and cannot afford to just take time off work. I am not receiving wages and am coming close to the edge. I am not depressed because of the time this has taken and thought this would be well and truly over this and back to normal by now. and I don't think I am being unreasonable. Is there anything else I can use, do to ease the pain and try to get myself back to normal life as this is definitely not normal.
I am at a complete loss as to what do to and would like to know if anyone else has had an experience like me. I can put up with pain but seven weeks is not just becoming ridiculous.

Hi there, i have recently had a haemorrhoidectomy (2 1/2 weeks ago) so i sympathize with you totally as i have been in a lot of pain since the second i woke from the anesthetic. I was kept in hospital for 3 days and was given every pain killer there was even morphine injections and none of them worked. The first week was like hell on earth and the first bowel movements were hell. My husband had to take time of work to look after me because i was in so much pain and i think i cried every day for a week. The main method i used for pain relief at this time was lots of hot baths.
My brother had had this operation several years ago and he told me that nothing worked for him either except VOLTAROL. When i got home i had to call my own doctor to come to the house because i was in so much pain. Its not a normal pain its a nervy pain which is excrushiating. I asked my doctor for voltarol as the nurses in hospital didnt listen to me there. After taking just one i could feel the pain releasing it was wonderful. Voltarol is an anti-inflamitory drug and it works. I still had bad pain and still do have after bowel movements but since going to my checkup yesterday the doctor who did the operation has given my co-codamol
30/500 tablets and i have to take one or two three times a day along with the voltarol three times a day and 30ml of lactalose in morning and evening and this is helping greatly.
This is my third week off work and have a line for a fourth week as well because i drive with my job and cant sit for any length of time so wouldnt be able to manage to drive around schools. I have good days and bad days the bad days usually follow bowel movement. My work appear to be quite sympathetic which helps and would hate if i had pressure from them like you seem to have. At the end of the day think of your own health and find out your rights as far as sick leave.
Its good to know that there are others out there that have been through the same pain and hopefully we will look back in a few months time in relief thats its all past.

Hi. I had a haemorrhoidectomy recently and would sympathize with anyone who has had the op or will need the op in the future. I wish i had more knowledge of how to avoid piles forming in the first place. Child birth was the start of mine and also constipation. I was given no advice about diet and came home from hospital with the packing still in. No one prepared me for the pain suffered during the first bowel movement. I was in tears as the pain took my breath away. My shower had been the best place to be sometimes 4 times in a day. I have been on a mainly liquid diet as i am frightened to eat solid food as i no it has to be passed later!!!! Every day gets easier but i am still taking lactolose and on a very light diet. So far i havnt hardly left the house as i do not want to get taken short and when i need to go i have to get to the loo quick. Hopefully in time i will be totally heled and can get back to norml life. Never again will i avoid eating a very health diet and drinking water and anything to keep me regular even if it means taking laxatives.
Hopefully i will get back to normal in a week or two but i do think the health sevcie hould prepare patients more on how to cope with the pain and discomfort after the operatiion.
