I stumbled upon this forum when I, too, felt a mass in my lower right abdomen. I could only feel it when standing up and it was essentially painless. I had noticed it for a few months and ignored or forgotten about it, but then one night it seemed larger and I panicked. . .I was almost certain it cancer. My mind and heart raced as I went through the list of possibilities at two in the morning. It seemed that many women were experiencing the same thing, but no one had an answer. I decided not to take any chances and made an appointment with my family doctor the first thing the next morning. He diagnosed it as a ventral hernia, related to my two C-sections. A ventral hernia is also called an incisional hernia because it occurs in thinning and weakening scar tissue at the site of a previous abdominal incision. A part of an organ in the abdomen, such as the bowel or intestines, protrudes through the weakened area of the abdominal wall. It's not life-threatening, but could cause problems if left untreated. My doctor referred me to a surgeon and I had the hernia repaired. Although this might not address some of the conditions in this discussion, it is a good place to start and it might ease your mind a little if you are reading this at two in the morning:)

Ok, what the heck? Lower right quadrant, hard-ish, almost pointy protrusion. It's 2-3 inches inside my right hip bone, and seems fixed to some larger item in there... Only tender after I've been pressing on it. I had my third c-section three months ago, but this is about 2 inches above my incision scar. What on earth? Any clue, anyone? Thank you...

Hi I have this too, I'm also thin and noticed a large lump below my ribs on my right abdomen which also moves under my ribs when I lye down. I was really worried about this so I went to the doctor and they weren't sure what it was. So I had an ultrasound and they said it was a kidney although they said they hand't seen one that moved before! I couple of months later I found one on my left side which I presume was my other kidney but that's seemed to have gone again for now.
Hope this helps anyone that's worried because I was really worried and couldn't find any information on it but it's still worth getting it checked out of course.
Though I find it is sometimes painful, does anyone else find this/know why this is?
Thanks

It could possibly be a floating kidney- sometimes it might hurt randomly I noticed mine hurts more when im sitting for awhile in certain positions or sometimes after I eat, if when you lay down it goes up into or toward your ribcage its probably a floating kidney, it should be pretty hard and you should be able to move it around pretty easily you might also get nauseous sometimes and you will be able to feel it a whole lot better when you are standing... search it up.... it won't kill you though it can be scary and annoying lol. I tried to figure out what was wrong with me for two years before a doctor finally figured it out I had several ct's done and ultrasounds and also x rays but all of those things are done when you are laying down and when I was laying down my kindey went back into the right place so it took them forever to figure it out. good luck mine is on my right side and I am also pretty thin

You may not believe this, but I also had MRI done and went to many doctors but they couldn't specify the lump.
I know it is related to a belief that may not be scientifically proven.

i have the same thing when in tanning bed, laying down i feel a hard squishy thing inside, sometimes moving or surfacing and no im not pregnant. i did have a cyst, had it removed and its still happening. ive been trying for 2 years with dif doctors to figure out whats wrong with me. i pee NON STOP. even when i dont drink anything. i did a urodynamics test and everything came back positive, nor was i diabetic. i feel akward/pain/pressure/ non stop and CANNOT stop peeing. it is horrible. done every test imaginable. the er told me during surgery they had never seen it before. there was STUFF in my pee, they didnt know what..and some mucous like stuff training from my kidneys to my bladder forming something that appeared to be hard. the doctor then tells me i have a chronic diease or illness that he dont know what it is, and we will play it by ear. cannot take bladder pills bc those are for spasms and keep u from peeing all together if u dont have the problem, ended up in the er for that.
ANYONE similar or know anything please email me at
thanks

I also felt an lump on my right side between my lower ribcage and upper hip bone. The ultrasound technician showed me that the lump i was feeling was actually my kidney! I have to press down pretty hard to feel it, it is not a surface lump. You're more likely to feel it if you're on the thinner side. Hope this helps! :-D

Just this morning while stretching I found a similar lump, large about 3" x 4" just under and to the right of by belly button, my bladder was full so it was easy to feel, hard and a little sensitive when I pushed hard to see if it moved. It did not move under my touch, but it did shift, I am guessing went further in, because it just got a little smaller. I am thin 5'7" and 130 and very sensitive to my body's changes. I will be interested if anything new comes from the prior posts. If mine is still here in a week or so (period is also due in a few days and it could be the build of that maybe) then I will go in and get it checked. But as stated above it is hard to trust doctors as they seem so eager to just remove things and get paid. After I emptied my bladder the mass was much harder to find.

It's kinda comforting to see so many people with the same thing! I've been noticing this for a few months now, but just assumed it was something to do with slow digestion. I only tend to notice it in bed at night when I'm lying on my back, and occasionally when I'm sat in a certain way. I'm not sexually active at all, so it's not pregnancy-related. Did anyone ever find out what it is?

I happened upon this thread before I went to the dr. I had a hard lump on my right side that didn't hurt. My dr. sent me for a CT, and found this mass and some lymph nodes on the report. I go to the oncologist Monday morning to determine if this is lymphoma or a desmoid tumor.

So what is the answer? I am going through the same thing right now. This is new to me sense November 2010. I went through the same tests and got the same answers as all of you did. But we all still have no answers? Well at least I know I am not alone now. What a mystery.

SAme thing, was just in ER and asked dr about it. He said also, since I am so thin 5/8 115. That sometime your bowel can get air in them and they will float. So the hardness that I will find then goes away is just that. he didn't seem so concerned. It is so crazy to feel!

I too have a similar lump on my right side which is very mobile. I recently had an ultrasound and they figure it's the size of a small apple. My GP said he's never seen anything like it and has no idea what it could be. I too am thin and can really feel it when I am lying flat on my back. I noticed it after having my daughter two years ago. I had an ultrasound and am now being referred to a gynecologist who my GP thinks will want to have the mass removed asap. But what does that mean? I fear a hysterectomy so badly as I want more kids. What could this be?
