I began having sever chest pain and throwing up spells about three or four months ago. I had no clue until my second visit to the doctor just a few weeks ago that I had symptoms for a sick gall bladder. I had to get and ultra sound, and it turns out that I do I have gall stones.
I had an appointment with a general surgeon this morning, and he said that he may have to refer me to a different surgeon because I am so overweight. First of all he was really rude to me and gave me a long drilling lecture about being 21 and weighing 320lbs. He asked me over and over what I thought was going to happen to me if I didn't do something. He would just not stop making a point for me to realize just how overweight I am.
He said that he is not sure if the instruments would be long enough to get through my "belly" as he put it. I feel like he could have just said, "Because you are overweight I may have to refer you to a specialist." I understand that me being weight may cause me to be referred to a high risk surgeon or specialty surgeon. I have a few questions..Has anyone else that is really overweight had to be referred to a different surgeon? Will this surgery be a lot more difficult because I am overweight? Also, do a lot of overweight people have this surgery without any issues? %-) I was only slightly concerned about the surgery before, but now I am flat out worried because of the HUGE deal he made out of it.
