Dr said heard murmur, no symptoms of cardiac problems. At 18 and college bound I want to understand this.s
Hi Guest,
It sounds like you have an "innocent" heart murmur. These are somewhat common and your doctor may not hear it the next time you have an exam. It does NOT indicate any heart problem. You have no restrictions on your activities.
There are "abnormal" heart murmurs. These usually indicate a problem with the valves. At 18 it would be unlikely for you to have an abnormal heart murmur UNLESS you were born with a defect, congenital.
Ask your doctor for more information. He/she heard the murmur. Again, it is unlikely that you have anything to worry about. You have the option of further cardiac testing but without any other evidence of a problem, by itself, the murmur is not a concern.
Hope it helps.
