Some thoughts for someone in need....

I had three bands done with no anesthetic recently, Dr said it would be mildly uncomfortable and I could go back to work the next day. This was a massive understatement, it was severely uncomfortable and very painful. So I thought I'd write something up to help anyone in the same position...

Plan to take adequate time off work. 2-3 days.

Get appropriate pain relief. My initial Dr suggested panadol, my GP said that was inadequate for such a procedure and so now I have codeine (with a laxative to prevent constipation), Diazepam for muscle relaxation and Zopliclone for sleeping. Talk to your Dr about whats best. If you've just had the procedure and are wondering if you should ring your GP and beg for a prescription over the phone...do it!

Much of the pain is caused from spasms relating to the banding - This is why it feels like the worst period pain, a urinary track infection and a giant pulsating poo with dim eletrical probes is taking over your body. Take magnesium to help relax muscles and Hot baths also relax the spasms.

Difficulty urinating is because your pelvic floor muscle is in spasm. An overloaded bladder desperate for a pee is very uncomfortable. Try to go for a wee when your muscles are relaxed ie: after a bath, first thing when you wake up...I found dribbling warm water over the urethra opening helped trick my body into working....extreme I know!

Also make sure you a good diet that will soften your BM, don't over do fibre as this could lead to a larger BM, you want soft. Mirilax is the best for this but I had to order from overseas in advance.

Having said this, the pain was so much better the next day and is tolerable. It better stop those itchy little farkers after all this though!

Good luck, you'll feel better soon.
