hiccups after cortisone shots

EVERY time I have a cortisone shot I get uncontrollable hiccups within a few hours. Sometimes it lasts for several days. I've tried all the usual cures, sugar on tongue, drinking water, holding air, breathing in a bag. NOTHING works. Any suggestions. I got a shot in the shoulder yesterday at 2PM, by 5 PM they started, and today they are worse. ANY SUGGESTIONS to stop this side effect???? :?

Teaspoon of penut butter, I got my shot yesterday and they started with hours and into today. All remades are a short term fix.
Mine lasted 12 days the longest. It was horrible.. Good luck. I hope they go away
Got a shot in my shoulder yesterday at 4:00PM. Hiccups started this morning at 9:00AM.
Let me know how long they last. And what kind of hiccups are they?
i also had a course of 3 days 1000mg cortisone and now the hiccups started. uncontrollable attacks that come and go and sometimes even wake me up at night, nothing seems to make them go away, just for reference im taking solu-medrol, they should really study this and list it as one of the side effects, hopefully it will just go away by it self, its really annoying, it seems that when i get busy with something it goes away. otherwise just have to wait and see guess
I also had a horrible hiccup response to a lower lumbar cortizone injection.  its helped the leg & hip pain, but woke up this morning and have had uncontrollable hiccups since.  The only time they have stopped is after taking a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, but after eating, the hicups come back.. I wait a while after eating and take another dose of the vinegar... it helps..  but again, like many of the items posted here.. is only temporary.. but better than nothing
I had a cortisone shot, my first ever, in my knee yesterday, 3/20/15 ~3:30pm.  My doctor said it would take about 48 hours for the cortisone to take affect. Well, about 2 hours ago, I started having uncontrollable hiccups. I'm 60 years old and, except for the basketball knee, I’m in very good condition with zero health issues. I haven’t had hiccups since I was a teen. And even then, not like this!!! So I immediately linked the cortisone shot with this sudden onset of hiccups. So I Googled "cortisone and hiccups" and found this website of posts.  Everyone, **THANK YOU ** for taking time to post your experiences and list what works and does not work.   Hey, who knew!?!!? The apple vinegar remedy is interesting in that it helped a friend "cure" his acid reflux -- to where he no longer takes the purple pill.  My wife started drinking a mixer of the unfiltered (mother) apple vinegar, bottled water and honey, as part of her overall health program. She exercises less, now, than she did last year and has - amazingly --maintained her slim and trim physique. The "eating ice cream slowly" remedy was most appealing to me...hehehe.  But unfortunately, no ice cream in the house – I’ll fix that later (smile). So I just filled a glass with ice water and started drinking it very slowly. Making sure it stayed in my throat for about 5 to 6 seconds before swallowing completely.  So after hiccupping --  very loudly -- every 20 seconds or so over a 2 hour period, I now appear to be symptom free for the last 20 minutes. So perhaps it was the combination of slowly drinking the cold water, as well as the fact that I had to hold my breath to keep the water in my throat for those 5 to 6 seconds, that did the trick! Thank you, ALL, for your posts.  They were all very helpful and comforting. I hope my post helps someone !! God Bless! Clinton, MD
After reading and trying most of the remedies (they didn't work) I gave my husband a Tootsie Roll Pop and it stopped them! He had had them all day long and they have been gone since last night!
After trying everything you could think of .... We came across this post. They stopped instantly! Still cannot believe it. What relief! Thank you!!!!!
This issue is still alive: I have a right shoulder inflammation since May, for 3 months now (actually, for over 2.5 years, but it was merely a tiny pain, so why go the doc, right?) Our GP gave me a shot back in May with no side-effects. I don't know, and also did not ask, the brand name. Two days ago, Thurday evening after work, a second shot, something called Diprophos. For the 7th time in 24 hours I have the hiccups (seems to have stopped by itself again, just now). Curiously, yesterday I also had an elevated heartbeat rhythm: ca. 114 beats per minute, while I read that corticosteroids *may* affect heartbeat rhythm; this, too, cannot be a coincidence.
I would like to join this cast of many and thank you for your posts. I too have been suffering from intractable hiccups for nearly 2 days following a steriod injection into my hip joint. I had never heard of this complication before but could not reasonably relate it to anything else! I am so relieved that this is the most likely explanation. Like some of The other posts, I have been also getting reflux symptoms but suspect they are secondary to the hiccups as they were never present before. The sugar works temporarily. I am now into my second night without sleep but hope that will soon change- going for the ice cream this time! Will update later, MJC (MD PhD)
The longest I had them was for 10 days. And everything I ate I threw up. It was horrible. I wish I could get another injection because they really helped.
Glad to read all these comments. I had a steroid injection in my hip Tuesday at 5pm, by 4pm Wednesday I had the hiccups. Wednesday night I got two hours sleep and now Thursday night 8pm there seems to be no stopping them. They occasional stop for 10 to 50 mins but come back. I am getting really bad heart burn with them as well. Just glad that it's just not me and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Only problem is I have to have the other hip done next week. Lol
Don't do it. Mine lasted almost 2 weeks. Sucks!!!
I've suffered from protracted hiccups for many years, on-and-off. One time, I ended up in the hospital after 10+ days of hiccuping. My doctor prescribed thorazine but I had a bad reaction to it (closed up my airway--not doing that again). Sometimes, ice cream calms them (I've had many whole pints!). The only other home-remedy that has every worked for me is swallowing a huge tablespoon of peanut butter (so much, you can barely get it into your mouth). I never had a cortisone shot until last month. I had one yesterday and got hiccups about 10 hours later. I then realized I also go them 3 weeks ago, just about 10 hours after my previous cortisone shot.
