hiccups after cortisone shots

EVERY time I have a cortisone shot I get uncontrollable hiccups within a few hours. Sometimes it lasts for several days. I've tried all the usual cures, sugar on tongue, drinking water, holding air, breathing in a bag. NOTHING works. Any suggestions. I got a shot in the shoulder yesterday at 2PM, by 5 PM they started, and today they are worse. ANY SUGGESTIONS to stop this side effect???? :?

I thought you were joking but since I was home alone with no one to rib me, I tried the Qtips. It worked for me too! I felt like an idiot but who cares.
Had a cortisone shot yesterday in my foot. Hiccups all night and finally stopped so I could get a few hours sleep. Then get up in the morning, fine. After about 30 min, incontrollable hiccups again. I guess this is either a side effect or an allergic reaction. If it takes away the pain, I can endure it. I hope so.
Tried this and it actually worked for me. Sounds like crap but it really worked, very happy I decided to try it!
Unh, erh what
How do you do vinegar? Drink it?
Hiccups twice lasting 48 hours. I no longer take cortisone injections. Physical therapy is working but takes a lot of effort.
As others have commented here, I tried the Qtips up the nose trick and it worked for me as well! I’ve been hiccuping for about 4 hours nonstop, and wiggling 2 Qtips up my nostrils cured it immediately. Hope they don’t come back!
One heaping teaspoon of peanut butter; eat slowly. OTC Omeprazole once/day.
I've had hiccups every time I've been injected with a cortisone type shot. 2 times qgo I ended up in the ER. My chest seized up and couldn't breathe. The most recent time I went to a pain Dr. I made sure they were well aware I could not have any cortisone injections. What happened? Yes they gave that to me. It's been 7 days still have hiccups. Been to Dr. Taking antacids, Dr gave me 50mg of chlorazipam (sp?) And Valium to help relax me. Last time it took 10 days till I was normal. This time I went to go pi k up meds. Chest seized up and couldn't breathe while driving. I was able to pull over and jump out and that got me breathing again. These articles that say it's minor and can not correlate hiccups with cortisone? Ya right. It's not minor and can cause serious harm to one self or someone else if driving and causing an accident.
the past year i have gotten 3 cortisone shots in my shoulder, all three times i have gotten heart burn the first night and after about 24 hours i will get the hiccups that seem to last all the next day then i 'm fine after that. i also have acid reflux from time to time without cortisone shots. i also have a pinched nerve in my neck that could be a factor. all i have to say is i don't like this getting old stuff, doesn't seem to be the golden years.
I had a Left shoulder cortisone injection just yesterday afternoon. This morning I awoke with hiccups. Relentless for the whole day on /off. Tried sipping water, ice, ice cream nothing worked. Found this blog and another Guests suggestions from over a year ago....... I tried it and it worked immediately. Thank you whoever posted this. In another thread on this subject, someone said their doctor cured it by putting q-tips up there notrils and wiggling, saying that a nerve gets out of whack and that disrupts it back in.After having hiccups for 4 hours after getting a shot yesterday, I tried this. It actually worked. I'm not sure if it was a nerve, or if the resulting sneezing fit disrupted my diaphram enough to get them to stop, but it worked. I put them up as far as I could and rolled them, after a few sneezes I did this again, and again, and again, long enough that I should've hiccuped a few times but didn't because I was sneezing. I've been hiccup free for an hour so far. Not sure if its going to be a permanent fix (really was the nerve) or temporary and will return in a few hours (just disrupted the diaphragm) but give it a try.
