Maybe it is the fact that your glucometer is not working properly or that the test strips are not good anymore.  You should check your test strips and do a control test on them first and see if they pass the control.  This will let you know if there is a problem with them.  If they did not pass the control test, you will need to throw them out and get a new bottle of test strips.  You will need to do a control test on the new bottle of test strips as well so you know if they are any good or not.  Many times if the test strips are subjected to adverse temperatures, this will cause them to be ruined.

If you find that your new test strips are not working right, you may need to go to the pharmacy and see if they can run a test on them.  If they work fine there, you might have an issue with your glucometer.  It may need to be replaced.  You can buy test meters pretty cheaply nowadays.  The companies that make them get their money by the expensive prices they charge on the test strips.  One of these problems may be what is going on and why the two tests are so different from one another.

If you find that your blood sugar readings are accurate, you may wish to have another lab draw done to check your A1c again.  It is possible that the lab test could be wrong.  Hopefully by then, you will find out why there is such a discrepancy.

the Hba1c provides a more accurate measure of your blood glucose levels. Hba1c is a test taken by your medical provider and it provides information regarding your blood sugar levels over a period of time, unlike your home blood glucose test which only povides you with a reading for that specific time. glucose attaches to the haemoglobin on the red blood cells, as blood cells survive for about 8-12 weeks in the body before being broken down, it offers a much more comprehensive view of your blood sugar levels, offering a long term trend. The Hba1 value is different to the BG value, for instance 6.5 % hba1c relates to approx 7.5 BG. hope that helps.
