I had a partial hysterectomy in 2002 and I am NOW in
2015 experiencing hot flashes! I've NEVER been on any type of estrogen or hormone pills. I don't like this at all.

It is 10 years for me, hot flashes are horrible I am on estrogen, I am sporadic, it doesn't really work. I get soaked, I can be out with friends and I am wet everywhere, I hate it. I feel like I have half a life. New Gyne had me "try" patch for flashes--I had a horrible side effect and now I have arthritis, psoriatic. Something triggered something in me and my joints swelled and I have never been the same. Some days I am hopeless. I wish I never had the Hyst! I know in reality I had to have it.......

I SO agree with DqM54!
Not only about the pharmacist switching meds (that JUST happened to my husband yesterday at Walgreens)
they switched his reflux pills and told him they did it because it was cheaper for his insurance!
THEY do not have the credentials to WRITE prescriptions!
Also, yes - I totally agree how certain medical needs are overlooked or "poo-pooed".
I also suffer with chronic pain. I am so tired of being treated like I am a junkie because I am on pain medication.
Yesterday I called one of the manufactors of my medication with a question about their product...they asked me if they could ask me a few questions - I said sure because I LOVE surveys - I feel like the company that has a survey cares about their customers. So I don't mind doing my part ...
Within 2 minutes of the questioning - I am asked "Have you or do you abuse drugs?"
I said no
then they say "have you or are you abusing alcohol or cigarettes?"

I had to go to the ER 2 weeks ago....(just for the record....
in the past 15 years - this is how long I have had chronic pain/back problems)
I have been to an ER 3 times - chest pains, a hernia and once with back pain....
This past time was a hernia -
I was in so much pain, I could barely speak....
at the end of the visit, I say to the Dr "will the pain medication"
and he stops me right there...and he says "now you know I can't give
you a prescription for pain medicine - it will get you AND me in trouble since you
are in pain management"
I wanted to just cry.
I mean, I probably shouldn't but I do care what people think of me.
I did ask for pain and nausea meds - 3 hours after I got there!
I finished my question which was - will the pain medication you gave me here last thru
out the night so that I can sleep? Contraire to their thoughts - I am not an expert on drugs :(

I am a 54 year old mom, grandma and wife.
NOT that this matters, I understand people of all sizes, titles, ages abuse alcohol and meds ...
I just feel that the medical field assumes someone in pain management is a druggie...
I have rods from a surgery 40 years ago that are broken in my back area.
They can't take them out because it could quite possibly cause paralysis ...
so 15 years ago after physical therapy, cat scans, bones scans, xrays etc etc...
they decide I will just have some level of pain most days...
Well its everyday but I can handle up to a level 5 pain ...

I'm here today because I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago
and now, I am experiencing so many menopause symptoms that I've not
experienced since surgery...again, contraire to what the medical field thinks...
I don't like medication so I opted for nothing for the hysterectomy ...
which my surgeon was an advocate of ... he said lets try this without
anything ... and I made it thru ... it wasn't pleasant and over the counter Estroven
helped at the time - now ... not so much :(

I am so glad the internet is here -
Its nice to be able to find answers to questions ...

I hope every one feels better and conquers these symptoms ...
big hugs -

I understand and over the counter medication does nothing to relieve the symptoms.

I am 66 years old. Had a complete hysterectomy (18 YEARS AGO) First 2 years I took Premarin per my OB/GNY who did the surgery, TWO months ago I started having hot flashes and night sweats. Per my female doctor, she would not suggest Premarin at my age. All blood test ruled out Thyroid or other causes. Blood pressure is fine. Any real suggestions will be appreciated. I am going to try or research the Progesterone Creams.

Same thing is happening to me, I had a complete hysterectomy 14 years ago, took Premarin for a year and than got off of it. Had hot flashes for a couple years after that until they vanish. I would just have one every now and than. Now in the last few months I have been having the hot flashes day and night. It's driving me crazy. Don't wont to go back on HRT. I don't know what to do.

This is what is happening to me. I was looking for someone with a similar story. I had a hyster 4 years ago. Took HRT, stopped taking it 6 months ago and was fine and now I am miserable. Hot flashes, mood swings (BAD) and weight gain (sudden). I just found my estrogen and took one. I can't be acting like this. Why is this happening to us?
