I’ve just heard that father of my wife has a collapsed lung. I know that this condition can be very difficult if you don’t treat it well but he is in hospital now and I believe that he will be ok. Can somebody tell me how can lung collapse? Thanks!
A collapsed lung occurs most commonly as a complication in the postoperative period, when deep breathing and incentive spirometry are often used to prevent or treat it. Also it my be the result of airway obstruction (by secretions) or of failure to deep breathe (postoperatively or because of neuromuscular disease).
