I will soon be having a hysterectomy. Anyway, I was just wondering, hat is the normal down time? How many days in the hospital, how many days off work, etc... ? The thing is that I manage my own store and love my work so I would like to get back to my work asap. So, any comments are welcome.

I had an emergency hysterectomy last year and was really pleased with it. I feel great. I was told I could go home the same day!! Now, I know that this is not same for everybody and that it really varies from one case to another. Anyway, I was able to walk around the block by the weekend and could drive just two weeks post op. I haven't discussed my work but I know that I’we been on a sick leave for 3 weeks. Hope this is enough info for you. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with uterine cancer at 33 and had a complete hysterectomy. Because of the supposed rareness of my form of cancer at my age and for my build, I was opened up from above the navel and 9 inches down so that the doc could look for other signs of cancer. I also had endometriosis. I was in the hospital for 5 days for this procedure but suffered complications with a bowel obstruction which landed me back in the hospital for another 13 days. The Doc was trying to avoid opening me up again to alleviate the BO, but eventually had to proceed with additional surgery. I was unable to drive for 6 weeks following, but I also had additional complications during the second surgery which included a pulmonary embolism and some significant stress to my heart based on the extreme weight loss during the BO episode (think almost Exorcist-like).

My case was extreme, and highly unlikely to follow the same course as yours--I'm sure you won't have the complications that I did.
