I am striving to get under the A1c of 7 for the last year. I have been having extreme amount of trouble with my diabetic diet. I am so tired on not having anything I want to eat and I miss having cereal, and starbucks coffee. It is really hard for me to do this diet. I feel too deprived and I don't think I can stay on it much longer. How do other people do it? I hate keeping track of food all the time. I have been overweight all my life, fluctuating with my weight and have been on a diet of some sort all my life. I am tired of looking at calories and labels and everything. Why do I have to spend half my time thinking about what to eat? If I can turn things around and get this done, I can get below A1c 7 and not be diabetic anymore. This is my ultimate dream. I wish there was a way to do it without this difficult eating plan. I started taking biotin and magnesium supplements ... I heard they can help lower blood sugar and so I am giving them a try. Any help I can get I am going to try it. How do the lot of you try to control your sugars outside of exercise and diet?

You should not be restricting yourself too much because you will set yourself up for failure. You can have your Starbucks coffee or cereal; you just need to work them into your diet. You will need to measure the carb units on these items just like you do anything else. You cannot have a tall coffee chock full of sugar, but you could have a small one with sweetener, for example. Once you learn the carb grams and what you are allowed, you will not need to read labels as much.
