Well I've got another big meet tomorrow. this is regionals, I need to get 3rd or better to go to state and that probly meens running my best times. So what can I do between now and 5:30 tomorrow evening to be best prepaired? What should I run today? What do I need to eat tonight and tomorrow? How much sleep do I need? I'm running the 1600 and the 3200. this is an all boys meet so it will go fast. probly only an hour or less in between races. What can I do in this period of time to recuperate fastest? Thanks I'm just a little nervous I guess.
I don't think you really can do anything significant. Get a good night's sleep. Don't change your diet overnight (though you probably don't want to take down a large pepperoni pizza either). Try to relax. If you've done your work all season you'll be ready for the races.
thanks thats what I wanted to hear. I'm just nervous. :umno: I feel like I reached my peak earlier this year. But I hope i'll still be able to make it to state. thats my goal just to run at state.
Don't eat anything different.
Sleep.
Watch a movie, listen to your MP3 player, just relax.
Adam Goucher had some good advice:
1. The Hay Is In The Barn - you can't do anything to make you faster at this point. All of your training is done. Just relax and be ready to run. No amount of miles helps anymore.
2. Visualize - Go over the race 1000 times in your head. Imagine the runners, the track, your coach, everything. Think about what you feel and see 10 mins before the race. How does it start if you go out fast, how does it look if you go out too slow? Do you see your rivals? When do you make your move?
The point is to get so familar with anything that might happen, that when it does, you'll feel like you've been there before. It makes you a lot less nervous once the gun goes off.
And my advice would be to have fun. Racing kicks ass. You can't control the weather, how fast the other guys are, all you can do is go out with a smile and do your absolute very best. Times and position mean little as you get older, but knowing you ran well is something you will remember forever.
good advice, thanks. I guess I better get to sleep and visualize the race in my dreams. ill let you know how it went tomorrow. :D
