Hi, I'm john. Also I'm a cyclist Who sweats a lot. A few days ago my pubic hair started itching so I scratched it without knowing that it had already a small open wound how do I treat it? Is it folliculitis? Or just a normal wound. Because in the past days I used my outdoor cycling shorts that is (wet with sweat) the used it again in the afternoon. Maybe that triggered the folliculitis hope to get great advice

Hi, John.

If you had a small open wound in your pubic area and it became itchy after scratching, it could potentially be a case of folliculitis. Folliculitis is an inflammation or infection of the hair follicles, usually caused by bacteria. It commonly occurs in areas where there is friction, sweating, and moisture, such as the groin region.

To treat the condition, here are some general suggestions:

  1. Keep the area clean: Gently wash the affected area with mild soap and warm water to remove any bacteria or sweat buildup.

  2. Avoid scratching: Although it can be tempting to scratch the itch, try to refrain from doing so, as it may worsen the condition or lead to further infection.

  3. Apply warm compresses: Applying a warm compress to the affected area for 10-15 minutes several times a day can help soothe the discomfort and promote healing.

  4. Wear clean and breathable clothing: Avoid wearing sweaty or dirty cycling shorts. Opt for clean, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabrics to allow proper airflow and reduce moisture buildup.

  5. Avoid tight-fitting underwear: Tight-fitting underwear can cause friction and irritation, so consider wearing loose-fitting cotton underwear or opting for moisture-wicking materials.

  6. Avoid sharing personal items: To prevent spreading any potential infection, avoid sharing towels, clothing, or personal hygiene items with others.

Have you got it checked? Have you had the similar problems in the past?

Good advice above. I'd also suggest a small amount of antibiotic ointment like bacitracin applied 2 or 3 times a day
