I just had a left hydrocelectomy in Canada, and this is what my experience was...I'm 58.
Biggest mistake I made was not discussing with my Doctor/Surgeon the exact procedure. It was not until after the operation I found my worst fears were unfounded. I thought they cut the scrotum!
Day 1 - arrived at hospital at 7.00 a.m. (take a book to read). Into surgery at 9.30 a.m., thirty minute procedure, recovery, collected by wife and went home at 1.30 p.m. If you have never had prior surgeries and do not know what to expect it can be disconcerting, but the process is so professionally carried out there really is no need to worry.
4" incision on groin (it looks like an incision but even today I dont think it was), scrotums wrapped in gauze bandage for support. I should have asked more questions!
Sore and uncomfortable to walk, watched movies in bed. Took one Tylenol 3 at night. Ate normally.
Day 2 - still more sore than painful. Sat in garden, read book, dozed and watched movies, no pain killers and slept good.
Day 3 - just brutal...stayed in bed most of day feeling ill (probably the anesthetic). Slept almost all day, took two Tylenol 3 at night. Not because I needed them for pain but so I would not wake up throughtout night.
Day 4 - slept a lot. Still sore but not painful. More uncomfortable than sore.
Day 5 - felt so much better. Took gauze support off, took covering off the incision. Moved around house, washed hair etc. Not constipated anymore!. My scrotum looks normal, which it has not for almost a year. Left was size of an orange!
Day 6 - felt really good. Stayed at home though. Had a shower. Had sex...everything still works....hooray!
Day 7 - drove car and went to work for the morning. Rode Harley in afternoon for 15 minutes.
Day 8 to 10 - normal day, work etc...100% recovered and just thrilled with success of operation.
Day 11 - played golf. Shot three over handicap (blamed operation).
Lesson learned - ask more questions before procedure.
