Hello, I was diagnosed with diabetes about two years ago and I have a problem with hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels). From this I experience burning legs and racing heart. Are these experiences coming from high blood sugar levels? From my previous experiences, it makes me think I'm pregnant, but I'm not. I also experience dizziness, sweaty palms and my face is red. Is there anyone else out there that has had these symptoms and knows what is going on. I do have difficulty in maintaining my sugar levels and I know I need to get better at that. Can anyone help me with some suggestions. Thanks

Hello, I have problems with my eyes burning and it's so painful sometimes I can't keep them open. Sometimes I feel sick to my stomach during the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. Sometimes it's headaches and other times I'm just dizzy. But, yes, I also experience a racing heart and burning legs. A lot of the time my hands are sweating and my face is flushed. I've had difficulty eating properly and controlling my high blood sugar levels and these symptoms are there because of it.

There are several medications you can take that can help with insulin resistance and blood sugar swings. One of them is metformin which I took for a year. For me, I didn't notice any improvement at all. So, all I can do is try to suggest a few things that might be helpful to control your hyperglycemia. It's all a diet so I'll start there.

Make sure to have some protein with every meal and you can have sugar if you counterbalance with the protein. Try to stay away from snacking in between meals. Again, if you have too, make sure to combine protein with sugars. If you have carbohydrates, make sure they are complex carbs such as whole grains and things like veggies. It's a good idea to take a multivitamin to get all the nutrients you need because of your diet. And, last but not least, don't forget about exercising. Exercise helps to bring insulin levels back to normal by increasing blood flow throughout the body.

As time goes on, you'll be able to determine which foods are bringing you to hypoglycemia. Then, you can stay away from those foods.
