2 weeks ago my boyfriend had a really violent grand mal seizure. We were hugging at the time his body started to convulse. I ended up pinned underneath him on the floor. I got hurt. My son witnessed it. I went to the hospital the next day to find out I had a broken cheekbone. The hospital called the police. Now my boyfriend is in jail and I'm left wondering what to do next.

Can anyone tell me what to do, or what to expect? We have been together for 3 years. No one has ever been hurt during his seizure. However, he had run out of medication as we had just moved to a new province.

The police think I'm crazy or something. I feel very alone in this, like no one is hearing me.

Hi guest,

You should be able to end this.

Talk to his lawyer and tell them what you just told us.  It should be a simple matter for him to produce records indicating that he has/had seizures and your records to support the "mechanism of injury" on your broken cheekbone.

This will be much harder if he has any history.  They'll think you're afraid of him.

Good luck.

He has lots of records, it's more a matter of getting them from the hospitals back home, we now live 3000 kms away. Hospital administration offices aren't the fastest moving, they are so overworked, at least in Canada.
They immediately put a no contact order in place so he's not allowed to contact me and I'm not allowed to talk to him at all or it breaks his no contact order and he gets an additional charge. He has court on Friday, as of last Friday's court date he didn't have a lawyer yet and was just using the one availale at the court house to remand his dates.
I wish there was a faster solution.

On top of it all, the duty counsel told me that he told them he had a seizure and that he hadn't been on his medication (that's how I found out about that), but I think the police are trying to scare me, they said that he wanted me charged, I don't see him doing that but I guess police are good at their job for a reason right?

I called a lawyer yesterday, not sure if I need one or not.

While he is having a seizure put a pillow underneath his head and lay him on his side so he wont choke on his tongue then step back and give him room. as for the lawyer inform them of his medical records get him to go sign for medical records and show to them for proof. You both have to tell them, if he has a history show it to them and tell them he did not hit you on purpose
