I had gallbladder surgery 2 days ago and I’m experiencing the same thing. My vision seems to be the same without my glasses but with them or my contacts I can no longer see close up. My right eye is the one affected and I feel a lot of pressure in it. I called the surgeons office and they said they had never heard of this happening. It’s so frustrating because I’m afraid it’s going to be more permanent than temporary. Has anyone gotten any answers?

Hi, guest.

Experiencing vision changes after gallbladder surgery can understandably be concerning. It's important to take these symptoms seriously and seek appropriate medical evaluation. Consulting an ophthalmologist (eye specialist) as soon as possible is crucial, especially since you're experiencing specific changes in your vision and pressure in your eye. They can conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Vision changes post-surgery can sometimes be related to factors such as the effects of anesthesia, changes in blood pressure or blood sugar levels during surgery, or even stress and fatigue. The pressure in your eye is particularly concerning and needs immediate attention as it could be a sign of conditions like glaucoma or other eye-related issues.

Even though your surgeon's office mentioned they hadn't heard of this happening, it's important to keep them informed of your condition. They might have additional insights based on their experience and knowledge of your surgery. Keep a detailed record of your symptoms, including when they started, how they have progressed, and any other related factors. This information can be very helpful for the doctors who will assess your condition.

Understand that recovery from any surgery can affect different parts of the body in various ways. Stress, medications, and the body's response to surgery can sometimes manifest in unexpected symptoms. If you experience any worsening of your symptoms, such as a sudden increase in eye pressure, pain, or a significant change in vision, seek immediate medical attention.
