I had Parathyroid surgery several years ago and I'm much too heavy now. Is there anything I can do at age 75 to get the weight off.  I've even changed my eating habits by eliminating one meal per day.

Hi, guest.

Losing weight can be challenging at any age, but it's possible to make positive changes to your lifestyle that can contribute to weight loss, even at 75 years old. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Focus on a balanced diet: Aim to consume a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid or limit processed foods, sugary drinks, and foods high in saturated or trans fats. Controlling portion sizes can also be beneficial.

  2. Stay hydrated: Drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger, so staying hydrated may help you avoid unnecessary snacking.

  3. Engage in regular physical activity: Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine, based on your abilities and fitness level. Consult with your healthcare provider to determine the types and intensity of exercises that are appropriate for you. Activities like walking, swimming, gentle aerobics, or strength training can be beneficial.

  4. Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for weight management and overall health. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.

  5. Manage stress: Chronic stress can contribute to weight gain and hinder weight loss efforts. Practice stress management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or engaging in activities you enjoy.

  6. Consider working with a registered dietitian or nutritionist: They can provide personalized guidance and support tailored to your specific needs and help you develop a sustainable eating plan.

Remember, weight loss should be gradual and sustainable. Focus on making long-term lifestyle changes rather than pursuing quick fixes. Celebrate small victories and be patient with yourself.
