hello

i have a question..i recenty inserted a tamon inside of me on saturday and had sex the same night as well as sunday..On monday i noticed a foul odor that is unlike me especially after a shower so i thought back to saturday and didnt remember if i removed the tampon afterwhich i reached up with my finger and grabbed a ball of cotton that smelled really badly.. i didnt see a string inside though and its puzzling to me what happened to it and if i really got everything out.. i visted the doctor the day after and she said she didnt see any other remnants of a tampon and she did what i felt was a thorough check..however days after that I still have a fishy smell as well as minor pelvic pain..is it possible that it could still be there and she just didnt see it? should i go get a second opinion? i am a serious hypochondriac and this is bugging the s*** out of me.. someone please help... thanks

If you had left a whole tampon in, id of thought your partner would of felt something.

Im guessing some of the tampon had come off. It staying there for a few days in had gone bad. The smell sounds like an infection. Did your doctor give you anything.

If you had anything in there your the doctor would of seen it. They can see all the way to your cervics. But im not sure if it could of passed through.
Your cervics is closed normally, but dose open a little when a period happens.

If you have pain in your pelvis, i wouldnt ignor it. Pelvic infections can be very nasty.

Take a water sample to your doctors to be tested an mention the pains.

Can anyone alse answer the Question.... Can a tampon be pushed past the cervics?

I was curious about this so i looked it up. According to what i read, you can be assured that there isn't anyplace in your vagina that the tampon can travel to. The opening to the cervix is teeny tiny and is normally closed. The tampon got pushed up to the highest part of the vagina and you can't access it with your fingers.
I suggest another trip to the Doctor. Tell her exactly what is happening. The "fishy" smell that you notice is an infection setting in somewhere which was probably not in place when you went to the Dr. the first time.
Did he/she use a metal instrument called a Speculum? She would have ran this under hot water then placed it into your vagina, you would have had a little pressure in your business when she started to tighten it into place. She would have gotten a light and sat down between your legs and would have been able to look directly into your vagina straight up to your cervix.
The tampon may still be there, especially if you are having some pain. Watch out for a fever. If you are getting an infection you will start to feel very "blah" Please consult her again, this sounds like it could turn into an emergency.

Thanks for the responses...My pelvic area is not in pain anymore Im not sure what that was about..there is still a slight smell..I made an appt with the GYN on friday..when i went to my primary care they did use a speculum -2 different sizes in fact as well as inserting her fingers... She said i didnt have any discharge or anything that looked like bacteria and she said she did not see a tampon so I wasnt sure why I was still smelling fishy...Normally after my cycle there is no smell ....like i said i did pull out a small ball of cotton so maybe i got it all.well we will see what happens on friday.

Did the fishy smell eventually go? How long did it take? Was there an infection?

There was no infection...i guess it was my paranoia...the doctor did not find anything...the smell is gone now..im assuming the piece of cotton i pulled out was part of the tampon..i have since stopped using tampons:) tired of worrying about leaving them inside.
