I have to get my hysterectomy next week and I am so scared. I don’t know what to expect from surgery. I never had surgery before; hysterectomy is the first one I will have. Is there someone who had hysterectomy and would like to share experience with me? I’ll appreciate it will be of a great help.

I had my hysterectomy Wednesday morning at and they let me come home yesterday. I came home looking so puffy with fluids. Who would think that one day on fluids would make someone so puffy, but I was drinking quite a bit too after surgery. I drank all night long and they had to empty my catheter a few times. The nice thing about the catheter was no need to get up to use the bathroom. I got out of bed same night and moved around a bit, but I was still unsteady. Since being home I take lots of short walks around the house and I'm drinking plenty of water.

What kind of hysterectomy are you having? That will determine how soon you'll recover. I had mine (LSH) two weeks ago. I'm feeling really good now. The first few days are tough because you're recovering from anesthesia and a huge whallop to your body. Just be calm going in and think about how good you'll feel afterwards.
