Hi John,
I know how you feel and I want you to know that I have been there. I'm currently in school studying Psychology and plan on being a therapist myself. I started seeing a therapist when I was 16 (I'm 27 now) and I have had at least 15 different doctors. Finding a therapist and seeing him a few times doesn't permanently tie you to him and if the relationship isn't working, you should try someone new. Like anyone you meet, the conversation needs to be a give and take process and not interrupting is important in making the other person feel heard. I recommend doing a search for therapists in your area and reading reviews. Never trust someone who makes a diagnosis the first time they meet you, also. I learned that the hard way. :) Read what other people think of the doctor and go with your gut. You are allowed to stay quiet, if you wish as well. It is your appointment and you can spend it in silence if you want. Don't feel pressure to reveal more than you're comfortable with.
