Hi, I wonder if I really need a Xanax for my depression. I have been using drugs for long time, but now it seems to me like psychological therapy would be more appropriate.

Hi, certainly you can try it if you feel like it would be beneficial. This kind of therapy acts on the cause and deals with real problems, compared to drugs that act on chemical level. Drugs can’t teach you to look at things in the different way. Xanax is anti anxiety medicine. Xanax side effects must be reported to the doctor, so he can decide whether it is worth continuing with the therapy. The most common Xanax side effects are: abdominal discomforts, agitation, allergies, anxiety, confusion, constipation, sleep disorders.

You should really avoid Xanax if at all possible. Xanax is actually a "downer" and although it can help anxiety it can increase your depression. I would really try psycho therapy first. Xanax is very addictive and just like other drugs, you can become dependant on it and before you know it, you'll need more when you get use to the dose...
