My son has seafood allergies. He also reacts to chicken and pig products. I was told by a doctor that many large breeders of chook and pig will mix up leftover from fish processing places into the feed and commercial food may contain seafood. I also know that in many places, pigs are fattened up quickly by being fed sardines and pilchards.

I am so happy to have found this thread. I have had this allergy to fowl since I was 4 or 5. I "outgrew" it around 16...but have been recently learning it doesn't go away but manifests differently. For me it was asthma as an adult. That is gone and I am back to hives. This sucks. I am pretty careful with what I eat but depend heavily on eggs and poultry. Without them I am going to have to be more aware of what's in the food I eat. The hives just started again in past 6 months. Didn't dawn on me until yesterday that this allergy has reared its ugly head again. I have gone about 30 years without any serious issues. I should be thankful for that...back to beef and pork. At least there is bacon

Same here... developed the allergy around 13-14. I'd always try to eat a little and just live with the discomfort until I had anaphylaxis. As was previously mentioned, don't mess around with it. I've found the fattier the poultry the worse the allergy/reaction. So Duck shouldn't even be considered!!!

My son has had a severe chicken/turkey allergy since he was a baby. His body does not allow him to even swallow it. Severe vomiting and hives will follow. Throat, tongue & mouth tingling with increased saliva production. We have an epipen for him. Only have met 2 other people with this allergy.

I didn't have a noticeable reaction until I was 18. As a child I always complained to my mom about poultry and not liking it, probably because of the effects -itchiness, wheezing, but never over the top.

By 18, it was everything poultry related. One time, while in Brazil, I think I ate chicken. Now response. I've always thought it was US processing standards but never "tested" it.

I gave had a poultry allergy since ad far back as I remember. I would eat it when I was 2 or 3 and have reactions. They reactions got worse. I haven't ate chicken or turkey meat since I wa's about 4. I carry a epinephrine pin now. I'm 47. I am so sensitive that I can eat 1 teaspoon of soup with chicken broth or fat in it and I know in 2-3 minutes. I have a life threatening anaphylactic reaction. I was tested as a child and retested in my mid twenties by a specialist. My allergy is due to a specific protein in poultry. I can eat eggs because the protein is not present in eggs. The doctor gave me the name of the protein but I don't remember it now. I was told I could never eat any kind of poultry because the reaction would become worse. That has proven to be correct. I check any meals I get frozen or in restaurants for chicken fat or broth. If have a allergy to the actual protein in poultry it can be life threatening.

I have always had the same sort of reaction to dark meat poultry. Usually I’m fine eating breast meat. I spoke with my allergist and he said it’s not a true allergic reaction. He thinks it’s actually eosenophilic esophagitis. The dark meat poultry cases my esophagus to become inflamed and results in the symptoms you described.

Have you tried antibiotic free meats? I've tracked down my exact reaction to chicken and Turkey... and farm raised fish. Any wild caught fish or antibiotic free chicken I'm fine with. My allergy to chicken started in 1981 and seems to coincide with the start of broadcast antibiotic use in the poultry industry in the US. Hope this info might help you!

My daughter also has a poultry allergy and it’s getting worse as she accidentally comes across it in different foods. Would love a solution. Her mouth gets raised bumps, throat hurts, stomach aches and back pain. Not fair for a 9 year old.

I have a similar reaction to white meat chicken or turkey. Not to be gross, but it like a volcano of phlegm that keeps erupting. If I try to drink anything, it won't go down & contributes to eruption. I have been to the allergist for testing & no reactions to anything. He looked at me like I was crazy. I had to figure it out myself.
