My husband has been having the same episodes for the last several years. I know it’s not alcohol because sometimes it’s like a switch and happens right in front of me. It seems to happen when he is tired... but he can sleep for 12 hours the night before and still do it at 5:00 the next day. It is tearing us apart and it terrifies me because we are bringing a child into this world next spring and I don’t think I can trust him with her. I’ve had him checked for sleep apnea and his glucose... it’s not either. Any insight would be wonderful, I’m at my wits end. But glad I’m not crazy and others have experienced this too

So I have had this same problem with my wife who is 54, this has been going on for 5 + years, last night she fell, got her in bed, got on my iPad and found this site, my wife does not drink much so I didn't suspect alcohol, this morning I talked with her and asked her if she was drinking and if she was hiding alcohol and to my surprise the answer was yes, she has been hiding vodka in her closet and mixing it with her water in water bottle. At least I know the problem, not sure what to do now. I am not saying that it is alcohol for everyone, but I would guess the majority of this behavior is alcohol. Good Luck everyone!

I posted this long ago. I decided to keep notes on everything that happened. What she ate , meds, moods, what day and time it happened. Over a year the data collected started to paint a picture. These episodes happened mostly when I was away or returning from work. Or they would manifest a few hours after I returned home. Unfortunately I figured out that my wife was hiding her addiction and what I was witnessing was severe intoxication, and or sever withdrawal symptoms. I refused to listen to those who said this could be it. Even doctors. No way my wife would let things get this bad and just lie about it while we were going through this. But.. she did.. we spent thousands of dollars on medical and medication expenses. She took all kinds of medication she did not need. I even took time off of work (at great expense$$) to help figure things out . She constantly lied and continued her addiction at any cost. I eventually found out through my own investigation. She is now getting help.
If this happens to someone you love. Take notes on when it happens. My wife was drinking so much right before I got home. She was sneaky.. hid everything, dealt only in cash, left no evidence, showered often. And really played the part of not knowing what was happening to her.
If the symptoms of your loved one only happens after you have been gone for a while then you need to look into things better. They may need help.

I’m going through the exact same problem with my wife. And after 4 years of it. I found out she was drinking in a bad way this entire time. years of doctors visits and medication she never needed. Your husband more then likely has a problem with some addiction.. and like my wife.. he will never admit it. You need to find out for sure on your own.. to rule that out. Because I learned that if that is the problem they will not admit it . I had to give my wife an altumatum, treatment or divorce. I had to move out.. but luckily after 3 days she checked into treatment and so far she has been sober for 58 days. I have been dealing with this issue for 4 years. Lost

My sister has been having these same episodes. No drinking but appears to be drunk. It happens in a matter of minutes. Please let me know what you find out. I think I’m going to take her to a numerologist and try to get to the bottom of it.

This same thing is happening to my fiance. It's like a switch flips and he's very irritable, slurring his words, has no coordination and has fallen on several occasions. He's not drinking, I know this because these symptoms come out of the blue even when we've been together all day. After an episode he always falls asleep and is fine when he wakes up, but has no memory of anything that happened. I was amazed when I found this thread because I didn't think anyone else has seen this. If anyone has gotten a diagnosis or anything please reply. This is terrifying.

My dad is having the exact same issue. I'm visiting him for the Hollidays/New Years , I hardly ever see him so its heartbreaking to have to deal with him like this. It started 2days ago. There's no way he drank, or took any drugs, I didn't know why he was acting this way and still don't know what to do. I'm glad I'm not the only person dealing with this.. it seems pretty common. I'm staying with him for 4more days, I desperately want to leave. I hate to see him like this and I'm so scared... if anyone knows how to stop this please reply, I'm stuck with this situation and I don't know what to do...;(

My husband has been displaying this exact bizarre behavior on and off for sometime now. It’s terrifying! It’s as if he suddenly becomes drunk.. slurred speech, slow responses, unsteady gait, hazy eyes, slow licking of lips before he speaks, arguementative when asked what’s going on. when asked specific questions, I’ve discovered he has no idea what day it is, thinks he just got home from work when it’s actually a Saturday spent with the kids. He makes me think I’m the crazy one!
The problem is, he has had problems with binge drinking on and off for many years ( though never willing to admit there’s a problem and will not see a doctor or speak to a counselor ). His last bout was just months ago- he always lies and I have always had to catch him or find his stash. Soooo know I don’t know whether to believe him ( is there a medical issue happening.?) or am I just being duped again?

Hi! I am so happy that I found this forum and people with the same experiences. My husband is presenting with the same behaviour. Not often, but it comes on maybe 2-3 times a month and as I guess it is not his fault, it does get really annoying and at those times I am not enjoying his presence. It is as all of you say...appears as he was drinking (and I know he was not), also his eyes do not seem to be focused, and as already mentioned he seems to be licking his lips before speaking. And talks a lot!!! Also gets very argumentative, and seems to get confused in what he is saying. We spoke about it, and he does admits these things are happening. He just does not know why and seems to have no control over it.
