Got my diagnosis today. Negative for cancer! Positive for Lichen Sclerosis. Going for follow up and getting topical steroid tomorrow.
I aslo am in my late 50's and having the same problem I just now came back from a second appointment with a doctor now I am being referred to a specialest in gyn and possable dermatoligist and a follow up with the other doctor in a month to see what next steps to take, I am using a topical ointment called Nystatin, I to have been reserching what may be the cause.
So pleased your results not cancer. Isn't it an awful thing . Im off to see doc with mine . You've given me encouragement. Thanks ladies
Hope all goes well. But you say, "Im off to see doc with mine"! I wouldn't suggest you going to see your doc without yours!
I went on Friday 7/ 11/ 14 to see the other doctor she looked and said you have Lichen Sclerosis and then said I have to do a biopsy to confirm my findings, ok so I agreed to have the biopsy done, she finished taking a piece of me to send to the lab and ordered clobetasol propionate, which I use twice daily for 14 days thats when I go back, and she will check to see if the color is returning and if so this is what she said I will end up using for the rest of my life once or twice a week omg I hope I have good ins for the rest of my life as well 275.00 for 6 grams,,, and who said the golden years were supposed to be the best years ........... thanks for listening .......
Hi I am 62 and have de,veloped white labias could you tell us which topical steroid you will be using, as I was given Mometasone a topical corticosteroid cream by my doctor and it caused itching and got a burning sensation after a few weeks using it, seems to be one of the common side effects, so stopped with that cream. I wonder which cream they recommend for LS.
Hello, I am 31 years old and I am going through some of the same symptoms you ladies are experiencing. I went to the ob/gyn and they believe it is lichen sclerosis. I did not have a biopsy done so I don't think they know for sure. It itches a bit in the vulva area. My clitoris and the vulva area has white patches. I'm trying to find a doctor soon who has much experience but I have to wait until I get insurance in the next month or so.
I don't know about the whiteness but I've had issues with discharge. If it's itchy and discharge is coming out it's prob a yeast infection. If it's very smelly somewhat thick and white it's bacteria. If it is really clumpy and thick also smells and is yellowish in color that it might b an std. But I'm not doctor but I do get bacteria infections allllll the time. I'm familiar with those ...
It may help to know that I also had this problem. I was really scared to go to the obgyn thinking it could be and std. Thankfully she thinks it's a problem associated with low estrogen levels and put me on a steroid cream. (Which by the way started feeling better on day 1) so glad I went. If you look up symptoms of low estrogen you'll find a lot of common symptoms such as sleep disturbances, daytime exhaustion, depression, low sex drive ect. All of which I've been dealing with for months. I'm hoping now everything will get better. Fyi though this is not something to take lightly... I'm only 26 and have to go back for further testing because it could mean other problems are wrong cancer, cysts, ect. Let's hope not but I'll keep you updated.
Lichen sclerosus causes skin to turn white and tear easily. Mostly in post menopausal women. Talk to gyno
It's called Lichens Sclerosis, see your doctor about it it can lead to cancer.
I agree with Carolyn, for me the pale/white labia was low estrogen too. I am 50 and I take estrogen cream twice a day already but sometimes certain vitamins or food can pull it out of my system so I need more than usual sometimes. I adjust how much estrogen to take every day based on how I feel (spacey, tired or not) and how my vulva looks (pale or not). Some of you ladies could just eat foods high in estrogen like beans, soy, etc. (there are many, you can look them up on the internet) and see if that helps you if you don't want to get estrogen cream.
May be lichen sclerosis.
These ladies could also be starting with LS Lichen Sclerosis of the Labia & Clitoris Symptoms are itching burning soreness very much like thrush go see your gp & get an appointment with a gynae ..........
I have the same inner white spots no pain
