Oh thank you!!! I would like to ask how old is everyone? I am in my early 50's and have started having them for a few years now. Last week I had one (after getting off the couch watching tv) and it hurt so intensely that it made me clammy and I also felt like I would pass out. I have been told to drink tonic water with quinine in it too. I remember someone telling me pickle juice would help but I haven't tried either one yet. I thought I had a blood clot or something so this forum eases my mind some to know Im not alone. If anyone finds a way to stop them or cure them altogether please keep me in the loop.... Good luck to all....... My thoughts are with you.

Hi! I'm a dancer, and the first time I experienced this problem was after a competition some months ago. I was lying in bed when a cramp started in one thigh, but before long both legs - back and front of thighs, calves, ankles and feet; it was absolutely excruciating and went on and on and ON; nothing I did brought any relief. I tried standing up, rubbing the legs, tried to walk - but, as other respondents have said, was overcome by feeling clammy, sick, very woozy, and eventually passed out cold on the floor. Fortunately, I didn't have to compete again the following day!
Then it happened again last night - just in my left thigh this time, and didn't last anywhere near as long. Once again, I got very clammy, felt sick and woozy, but didn't pass out - I made it to the kitchen and gulped water with magnesium powder in it then, after a few minutes more made it to the bathroom just stood, hanging onto the wash basin for support, then washed my face with cold water. It did eventually subside and, very cautiously and carefully, I got back into bed.
This morning my thigh muscles are stiff and sore (not ideal, as I have to dance again today, preparing for a big competition).
It's a horrible, scary thing that each of us has described - and for people living alone, like myself and others who've posted here, it's particularly frightening. I am, however, so very grateful to everyone who's shared their experiences - my heart goes out to you all, but I'm also comforted to read your stories and know that I'm not alone.

I am in tears right now! I started having these in 2007. The doctors can't seem to figure out what's going on so I've just dealt with it. Sometimes I wake my children up in the middle of the night screaming in pain! The next day or so afterwards I'll have bruises in my inner thighs. I will definitely try the quinine! Anything is worth a try! Thanks so much for the info.

I am 67, in reply to the 50 yr old grandmother - and am also a grandmother.
To all, I have tried every home remedy out there, including sea salt added to H2O, and absolutely nothing worked.
I am now seeing a neurologist and have found that I have neuropathy as well as very low iron levels so am now on gabapentin and 325 mg of iron 3 times a day. Do not self medicate! That seems like tons of iron but he thinks that might help with the leg cramps. It's only been 2 weeks on that and I've had some severe Charley Horses since - the more I'm on my feet walking/standing or sitting with my feet down, the worse they are.
Don't stop looking for answers for you might be the one to help all the rest who are suffering. Solving this problem will be another medical chapter.

Mine started last year and it happened during sex. I have read all the postings here and haven't seen any that happened during sex. After my boyfriend and I broke up it never recurred. I recently have a new boyfriend. All has been good until last night. We had a late dinner and it included a scrumptious dessert. I normally eat clean and avoid sugar but last night was an exception. I am rabid about hydration and drink lots of water during the course of the day.I take multi vitamins and an assortment of other supplements. I limit caffeine. I am a gym rat. I make sure to get my cardio in as well as my weight training.I am good about stretching after. I'm 63 years old looking for solutions and definitely don't want to give up sex.

At the risk of sounding like someone bordering on the lunatic fringe,I believe there is a metaphysical explanation to do with energy that is causing these attacks, and that is what they are, attacks.
Meditation using brainwave audio frequencies can help as can learning to control your breathing and getting your body to relax.Obviosly you practice this stuff so you don't have to put up with any more of these wicked cramps.

Interesting thought! I have had a waxing and waning commitment to meditation. I am a very hyper person (ADHD) and not always on medication for the ADHD. My friend who has had the same has a very similar personality so meditation definitely is a plus for us. I am currently meditating and having no cramps. My iron is extremely low but coming up, my B12 is currently good and my mag and potassium are just fine. I had a large hematoma (size of a plum) that left a large bruise after my last attack. It is usually both legs for me at the same time. I have passed out both times this has happened.

I'm having the same. Issue. Last night I got leg cramps in legs, on the inner thigh. I immediately knew I was in trouble. I was in the movie theater and thank God it was the end of the movie. I stood to try and stretch it out and began to feel nauseated and faint. Needless to say, I passed out and got sick all over myself. I felt horrible and embarrassed for my date.
I'm trying desperately to find an answer. I'm 54, workout, eat well and I take all my supplements. If you find an answer, please let me know.

My husband experienced this for the first time last night and resulted in him passing out 3 times in total - he's ended up with a head laceration after smashing it off the bath and a large lump to other side of head after hitting the sink. I was terrified and thought he had thrown a blood clot off and was experiencing a cva! Never seen or herd of this before but worried about future attacks.
He does suffer from excessive night sweating which is further exacerbated by stress (the past 12 months have probably been the most stressful for a long time, death, pregnancy - associated problems, birth - difficult baby). I am wondering if he had experienced a particularly bad sweat last night which resulted in extreme dehydration therefore causing this cramp to occur.

I have been experiencing groin cramps for years in my right thigh. They first started after a large (1.5 pound) lipoma was removed from that thigh. Last night I had one in my left groin. I was getting up from a recliner and it came on instantly. My wife heard the guttural noises coming from my mouth and tried to help. I passed out in the chair for a short time. She almost called 9-1-1. She brought me water at my request after I regained consciousness. I kept my leg as straight as possible until the cramp eased. I took a 30+ mile bike ride earlier in the day. I may not have adequately re-hydrated afterward. I am 63 years old and work out daily. The combination of exercise and dehydration seem to be the cause for me. Unless you have experienced one of these episodes you cannot understand the intensity of the pain. It is a 10 out of 10. I had shoulder surgery a few years ago. I called that pain about a 3-4 out of 10. I didn't take any medication for it after the first day! Thank you to the women that have commented on the cramp in comparison to childbirth. My wife brought up her childbirth experiences to me last night. Those comments helped her to better understand my pain!

I have cramps all over my body, I started having the inner thigh cramps for about 8 years. I live alone and have even passed out one time. 2days ago I got the cramps in both of legs inner thighs. It is only getting worse. All my blood work came back fine. I wish they had a answer to what is wrong. I use ice and push as hard as I can or have someone else if I am in public, that seems to stop the cramping, butit feels like my legs ate bruised for the next week or more. Please I pray they find a cure for this or find out what is causing this. I had a heart. attack at age 44,they said my body was extremely low on potassium and magnesium and that is what caused my heart. attack. Can anyone help it is effecting my job and I have to work just to survive,I am not old enough tocollect ss. Thanks

It sounds silly, but pickle juice and things like that do work. I'm thinking it's the salt in these things. I've read other "cures" one being take 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
