I just experienced the same symptoms last night for the first time that many of you have described. I played competitive tennis the day before. It's not too unusual for me to wake up with sudden muscle cramps in the calf or hamstring the next day, but it is highly unusual for me to get cramps in both inner thighs and get suddenly nauseous and faint. I've never fainted before in my life, so I was surprised to come to and discover that I was on my back on the floor and had hit my head. No injuries, but I was weirded out for sure.

I notice a lot of commonalities in the posts here:

Most or all of the cramps are inner thighs
Most happen during sleep
Many are in their 50s for older
Most, but not all, occur after some kind of exercise
Many get nauseous and many faint.

The sudden drop in blood pressure from the pain and dehydration makes a lot of sense. I wonder though if there are other things that many or all of us may have in common that haven't been considered or discussed yet. For example, in my case I had just bought and used a memory foam pillow for the first time. I know they are prone to off-gassing. I also had red wine the night before. Clearly, hydration and electrolytes are the major issue, but I wonder if something like memory foam or red wine might play a contributing factor. Anyone else have those things in common or is it merely coincidence?

Went for a 40km mountain bike ride with quite a bit of elevation 830m. Slammed a gatorade and a bunch of water. Took a nap and woke up with a inner thigh cramps. Tried to stretch them out and then just started sweating and fainted. A scary situation. Doctor increased my magnesium intake and have not had a cramp for well over a month. Trying to reduce my intense levels of exertion to a moderate level. Seems to be helping. Strange thing is I seem to be quite anxious ever since this happened. Im hoping this is just a temporary feeling created by the fainting.

Female 69--Just had severe inner thigh pain in both legs that radiated down my legs. Had Metaxalone (from previous doctor for pain management) and took 2 pills. Pain relief came in about 10 minutes. Had done yard work today--used electric hedge clipper. Drank water but had stretched muscles not used normally. Also had cake after dinner...anniversary cake (sugar?). Probably perfect storm for episode to occur. I previously had laminectomy and foraminotomy at 3-4-5 levels in lumbar spine (Dec. 2016). Had gone to pain management in April because surgery did not prevent inner thigh spasms from happening. Doctor was going to inject med into 3-4-5 facet joints which should prevent those spasms from happening again. I experienced one on April 1 and not another one until tonight Aug. 26. So I never returned for injection. Guess I should give it a try. Just providing this background in hopes it provides some options to other sufferers. I would rather give birth to my children again rather than experience that spasm pain. So I feel and know your pain. Good luck with solutions. God bless.SOUND

I have been dealing with this same type of pain for years and am now finally convinced it is nerve related. My nutrient and electrolyte levels are great. I stay hydrated all the time. I have had two extensive abdominal surgeries and have some minor disc issues in my neck and lower back. It happens when I am far overtired or have put a lot of stress on my body. It also happens if I eat too late at night. But there is no perfect pattern. It can start in my foot, run up the calf, through the inner thigh, through the leg hinge and hip, through the glut into my back. Or, most often, it just screams through my inner thigh and sometimes radiates up or down. Sometimes both legs, but usually my left. It's crippling and dizzying. I used to only be able to relieve it by sitting in a hot bath - but getting into the tub was so difficult. After doing nerve stretches to treat the neuromas in my feet, I found that these night episodes were decreasing. I now see a neurologist who believes that the issue may be related to my compromised discs, but more likely is related to the scar tissue from the surgeries I've had. I do notice that if I start to feel the twinges, if I drink water and move in ways to stimulate the GI tract, I get relief. So I also believe that my abdominal scar tissue is at play here.

I have been getting inner cramps in my right leg only, off and on for about 20 years. I recently discovered that if I place my right leg on a bar stool behind me, then bend my left knee in order to try and stretch the right, It stops the cramp very fast. No other kind of stretching works.

I have been experiencing inner thigh cramps for several years now and just had one that was so severe I could not stand without passing out. I have been taking ramipril for many years and wonder if there is a connection. These cramps are unbearable, any advice?

My physician says the fainting is caused by a vago response which can be brought on by acute pain and/or dehystation and/or (oddly enough) urination or bowel movements. In my case, she suggested hydrating more after exercise along with electrolytes and potassium and a post workout recovery drink.

HI.
Your experience is identical to mine. Last night was my first experience. It was the inside of my right thigh and did momentarily spread to my left. No position relieved the pain. My partner was asleep in bed and eventually came to my aid. By then I knew I was going to faint. My head went cold and I felt nauseous. I did pass out and woke up on the floor. My partner made sure I slipped down safely. There must be an answer for this.

Ok, I too have these cramps and I have tried all of your remedies and nothing works to stop them, except a heating pad. I keep it by my bed and I have one that you have to hold the trigger for it to heat. It's huge and will go under one leg up between my thighs to the top of the other leg. And thank goodness it does. Last night was the first time I had one start in my left back quad and silly me got up to try to just walk it out and it hurt so bad I broke out in the cold sweat and I got the pass out feeling so I layed down. Still having the cramp and all the other stuff another one, cramp, started on the inside of my right leg. I thought I was going to vomit. I had to scooch on the floor back to the bed and sit on the floor with the heating pad but it immediately started subsiding as soon as it got hot. Now here is the kicker. I have a broken back at the T12 L1, L2 vertebra and ZERO discs in between. I also have degenerative disc desease in my low back. My doctors tell me these cramps are from the pinched nerves. I generally get cramps if I have overdone things. I have always loved to hike and geocache. Also I was a dancer throughout my life. Ballet, etc. But in my older age I now have osteoporosis, thyroid issues, and psoriatic arthristis. So only thing I can give y'all for advice is the heating pad. I still take supplements but When I go down with a cramp the heating pad is THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS. I don't have near the soreness afterwards either. Last night was the 1st time I have ever gotten one in each leg at the same time. All I can say is it hurt like a sun of a booger. I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
Hope this helps someone!! Oh and get your backs checked!!
