I’m 31, and I go hiking about every other weekend (sometimes more frequently). I’ve always had leg cramps but usually they’re in the calf and feet. Those are bad enough but I’ve lived with them. I know that after hiking, I need to drink a lot of water and take potassium. This seems to reduce the number of episodes. They tend to happen at night and within a half an hour of taking a hot shower (I don’t know why). I’ve slept in sneakers because shoes tend to help he foot craps.
Today we went hiking per usual. It wasn’t an exceptionally strenuous hike (8 miles) but I was a good tired. Took potassium before my normal shower and downed 30oz if water. Ten minutes after the shower, the thigh cramp hits and proceeds to travel to the other. Knowing cramps but never experienced one this bad, I forced myself to walk but felt like I was going to pass out. I half collapsed on my bed and the agony lasted another 5 min before subsiding. I’m guessing my BP dropped because I’m still freezing almost an hour later scared the cramps will return. How terrible.

I have cramps in my thighs only and it wakes me up out of sleep
I can’t walk the pain is so bad. I have tried yelling for my son in the room next to mine but must not hear me so I wonder if any sound is even coming out of my mouth. It scares the hell out of me
I’m not sure what to do and I have been to the dr numerous times but nothing shows up in any tests
So scared that it will lead to something more fearful

This works for me- I keep aspirin next to my bed. When the cramps hit and they hit hard I chew a aspirin and drink it down with water. I try to walk it off as my wife laughs at me while I am in deep pain. It can take about 5 to 10 mins to walk it off. I think the aspirin thins the blood and helps it flow into the muscle and relax it. The wife laughs not that she is happy I am in pain but you look so strange trying to walk when you just want to pass out.

I had a severe cramp in the back of my thigh. I couldn't move and I fainted.Later that night I had severe cramps in my ankles. Nothing would stop it, it was very scary.
It is not the first time, I get really bad cramps sometimes in both legs but I never fainted before.
I purchased a lotion of magnesium and dead sea salt and I began using it. You just rub it in, apparently magnesium deficiency causes cramping and supplements can cause diarrhea.
The lotion is absorbed through the skin, relaxes the muscles and improves the magnesium levels in the body. I've have been feeling calm, my legs and ankle muscles are relaxed and no cramps so far.

Hi, I just got of the hospital after passing out due to my leg cramps. Normally I just get on the floor near a wall or something if I can’t get to the kitchen, Thurs morning at 4:30 they woke me and I , through much pain got to our open living area. I tried to stretch them out but the pain was too excruciating and just as I was thinking about getting ice packs ( for both legs) I fel the extreme nausea. I came to with my husband calling my name and in much pain from the fall. They did every heart and blood tests imagineable, all the while I was telling them it was due to the leg cramps. After 13 hrs in the ER they came back with everything is negative and released me. I saw one thing that it could be “hypoparathyroid disease”. I hope it’s my answer. I’m afraid to go to sleep at night!...I’ve tried it all and I’m tired!

This has happened to me for years now with both inner thighs. I get upset when people talk of foot cramps or calf cramps. Ive had them many times, but these are horrible. I find myself getting on the floor to save myself from fainting. I just got out of the hospital because I didn’t lie down fast enough and fainted. My husband heard me fall. And call paramedics because I was disoriented. I’ve research the 5 neurotransmitters of the brain and I’m now takin GABA supplement which helps relax the muscles.

I'm glad I'm not crazy. This is fairly new for me. Just started about 8 month's ago. I wish I knew what to do. I have passed out twice now and felt like I was going to several other times. There has to be a doctor out there that knows what this is. Literally my leg is on fire right now from the episode I just had a few moments ago. And i know it will be sore for weeks now.

I have had severe shin, foot and calf cramps for years. The pain is so intense I have also passed out cold, waking up on the floor. One night I passed out twice in a row within a few minutes time. I wake up on the hour or 2 hours always with a cramp or one about to lock in and as the night wears on the chance of a severe cramp attack gets more probable. the only time I was free of these cramps attacks was when I was undergoing Orgonomic Therapy. It is a very physical psycho therapy that involves deep breathing and deep tissue work at the same time. Then I would run in place lying on my back and burn up the energy. It worked. My therapist warned me that I had a lot of emotional energy trapped in my legs. The therapy released it and I did not have any cramps for the 3 years I went. I am not in therapy now and the leg cramps are back in full force.

My inner thigh cramps started 3 years ago, I was sitting on the couch watching TV when it struck, extremely painful and lasted about 5 or 10 minutes. Several months later it happened again only much more severe and of the same duration. I had been having cramping issues for years and my MD can prescribe no solution, as I have done everything she has suggested. Drinking water. taking potassium, taking magnesium, stretching before bedtime. I no longer ask for her help in this matter. Last night, the worse bout yet, I came close to passing out and the pain felt like the cramping was in the tendons and ligaments of my inner thighs not just the muscles.I could not stand up as I was blacking out and just layed on my bed till they subsided, about 10 or 15 minutes. Thank you all, I am so relieved I am not the only one suffering from this odd but serious trauma...I will also try some of your remedies that I have not tried as of yet. I am desperate as I am sure I have not seen the last of these cramps.

This info helped me along with light massaging the inner thigh and trying to relax and and focus on anything other than the cramping. I did pass out from the pain the 3rd time I had one but now know how to deal w/it a lot better. No cramps for several months now...keeping my fingers crossed.
