For about 3 months now, my fiance has had an intensely itchy area on the left underside of his scrotum.  We tried numerous powders and creams, both medicated and non-medicated.  Some would work for a few minutes to a few hours but nothing "cured" it.  The area is very wrinkly and dry looking.  He scratches and itches it so much that it starts to get raw.  I stopped using any laundry detergent at all on his boxers and just washed them in water.  He said it helps, he isn't as itchy as he was before, but its not going away.

My crazy mind is now going all over the place to try to solve this and I began to wonder....

I, myself, have been suffering from recurrent episodes of bacterial vaginosis for about 2 years.  I treat it with vaginally inserted metronidazole and it goes away.  Then, sometimes weeks, sometimes months later, it comes back.  I just did some research and am going to try some home remedies for myself.  But... Can he have this??

I find conflicting information online about men and a bacterial infection.  I read that it is uncommon for men to get this and if they do they USUALLY have no symptoms.  Is it possible that he got it from me and is now starting to show symptoms?  And I only treat myself so are we just passing it back and forth?  Maybe these are two completely different issues but I have to wonder and ask.  I hate to see him so uncomfortable all the time, and I know I hate the symptoms I get with my BV.  Any ideas?  Please Help!

Hello!  What type of powders and creams have you used?  Is this the only area that is affected?  Does it have a rash-like surface or generally reddened?  I imagine you have used jock cream and other anti-fungal type of medications.  You had something similiar to a fungal infection as well but it wouldn't be transmitted to your fiance.  Possibly it maybe just ordinary irritation from the area getting rubbed on his clothing?  It doesn't ooze from what you have said in your post.  If it doesn't improve, he should see his doctor so he can get some relief from the itching and irritation. Has anyone else have a problem like this, and if you have, what was it and how did you treat it?

Thanks for responding! He tried triple antibiotic ointment, an anti fungal cream, calamine lotion, gold bond medicated powder and cream. Yes that is the only area that is affected. It is only red when he itches it, otherwise it just looks dry and wrinkly, almost leather like. It's a little bit flaky sometimes but no drainage or anything.

Hi, there! Maybe try some Hydrocortisone cream or Benedryl cream. These will reduce the itching that he is experiencing. If it happens to heal up, it may have been an allergic reaction to something or just irritation from the boxers rubbing wrong. Sometimes if the area on the scrotum has been scratched at for a period of time (like when it was itchy and he was scratching), it may take some time for it to heal. I hope the suggested creams help. :)

Thank you, I will get some and have him try it tomorrow! But just to clarify, you don't think he has some type of bacterial infection caused by my BV? And even if his symptoms don't match that, is it possible that he has a bacterial infection without symptoms and keeps giving it back to me? If so, what do men take or use to treat this??

No, I don't believe it is anything that you would have passed onto him ;)
