i do not like the depo either. when i first gt my shot like in march 2008 i was bleeding for like 2 weeks, then after that month everything was fine maybe spotting here there. i got my second one in may everything was still about the same. then i was suppose to go in august 2008 but i didn't want the shot any more. any who starting in July it started spotting more. from august to like October or November i was bleeding like everyday, now day was i free from bleeding. i got another one in like November after being fed up with it, for a while everything was okay no bleeding, may be spotting every once in a while. now it December 2008 and ive been bleeding since the Saturday before last. i hate it to. so i just thinking of getting on the pill for a while to kind of wing of the depo, because from what i hear the pill is not as bad as the shot even from side effects. i hope i do get back to normal in menstruation once off depo, and possibly the pill. my net appointment is January 2 of 09 so hopefully this pill will help out a little

I got my first depo shot in August of this year. For the following three months, until I had to have my second shot, I had no bleeding at all. After getting my second shot in November, however, I am bleeding continuously. Not heavily, but still bleeding nonetheless. I sometimes get cramps and have seemingly become more moody and tired. I called the doctor to let her know about this and she said the bleeding should subside. I'm going to give it one more week and if it has not I will call back. I was on the pill before and had none of these side effects. Has anyone had anything similar to this? Replies would be appreciated; I wish you all the best of luck in getting your problems solved!

I was on Depo about 2 years, no problems at all! I got pregnant about 2 months after I stopped and when my daughter was a year and a half I started using it again. I gained a bit of weight (a couple of pounds), I have been lightly bleeding for about a month (I am on shot #2) but my moods have been terrible. I have been miserable, feeling depressed, which is not me at all. I can't seem to shake it and I know that it is a result of the depo. I have awful cramps 24/7 and tylenol just doesn't help. I am not sure if my body reacts differently to it after I had my daughter, but I can't wait for it to leave my system and never use it again. I used it for birth control, but I don't want to have sex anymore! It really defeats the purpose.

On the first of December 2008 i recieved my first depo shot. I chose the shot because like most girls who get it, I was thrilled with the idea of not having a period, also remembering to take the pill everyday is a pain in the ass. I did my research, even talked with a family member that has been using depo for about 10 years. (she swears by it). Now im wondering if i made the right decision. 2 days before christmas i began spotting. It is now the 5th of January and im still spotting. I know that it is not uncommon to have this, but im getting frustrated waiting for it to stop. I called my doctor today and told her what it going on, she said its normal but it could last several months. (gee this info would have been helpful before i got the shot!) I feel i was not properly informed on what I was likely to experience. Also about a week after getting the shot i experienced severe night sweats. I would have goose bumps and be shivering but would wake up soaked. This lasted about a week. I also had a red, slightly itchy rash down both upper arms. This also lasted about a week. I figured it was my bodys way of getting used to the sudden boost of hormones. Im scheduled to recieve my next shot on the 16th of february. Im wondering if i should get it. While the night sweats and rash were mild and tolerable, the bleeding for 2 + weeks is more than annoying. Has anyone else experienced the rash and night sweats? Is there anyone who can tell me when im likely to stop bleeding, and if i will experience these side effects every time i get the shot? Im starting to think that having to remember the pill everyday and dealing with a normal period every month would be less hastle than this.

I am 19 years old. I received the depo shot, because I had some abdominal, and lower back pain, that could possibly be endometriosis. I was told that the shot would help if it was endometriosis. I was not told until I went to schedule my next appointment (after my injection) that my periods were supposed to stop. This was in July 2008. Then around the end of Aug. my period started like normal, but the bleeding never stopped. I would get a day here or there with no bleeding but it was rare. I also started clotting with it, I called my doctor and they said it was normal. Finally after two months they decided to try me on a pill. They put me on Ocella. Due to certain reasons I had to stop that pill. It is now January 09 and I am still having abnormal bleeding and spotting. The depo shot really screwed things up for me. I am really upset with myself as well as the doctor for not enough information about depo-provera before I received the shot. This might be great for some people, but it has been one of the worst experiences of my life.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with BV since all the break through bleeding with from the DEPO???

I had the same reaction with the constant break through bleeding after taking depo. I took my first shot in Jan. 08 and feel like I spent most of the year of 2008 either having a period or atleast spotting.

During last year, from time to time I noticed a foul odor coming from (gasp o.O ) ME, and from down there. It seemed to be worse at times, but my boyfriend and I both thought it was the blood smell, or residual blood from where it was almost ALWAYS trickling out...

I finally wised up in November, called my doc and told him to call me in a birth control pill, that I would not be getting my December shot, and made sure it was okay to go ahead and start taking the pill even before the shot wore off, hoping to try to stop the friggin' bleeding.

But the problem with the odor from me, especially during sex has gotten worse until the point of being a complete distraction. Went to see my doc and I now have BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS, or BV. Its an unbalance in the natural bacteria that you have that has allowed "bad bacteria' to grow.

I have to wonder ? if this BV isnt the result of all the bleeding causing an imbalance in my PH levels and crazy hormonal fluctuations...

DEPO PROVERA... :-S its the gift that just keeps on giving......
WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took my first depo shot 12/10/08 and i didn't have any real side effects until this month. Now I've been spotting with occasional bleeding for over two weeks. I never even knew depo caused prolonged bleeding so i'm really frustrated. My boyfriend is being understanding but he has also noticed that I've been a little emotionally off too. I really don't recommend it at all and i wish my doctor would have explained the side effects to me ahead of time

I'm so mad. It seems like I have been spotting the whole time and I just received my third shot thinking that it was going to stop my 3 weeks of spotting and cramping. I am not really having sex but when I do get ready I don't want to be stopped by this. I have done my research and I didn't know what I know now and I wish I did. I thought it would be a good idea instead of the pill. I have bad reactions to most b/c. I guess I can put this one on the list too... >:(

I have very common side effects and factors that all of you have described. I got the shot back in October of 2008. Was suppose to get the 2nd in January..never did..and thank GOD for that! This has messed me up quite severly. I've had MAJOR cramping..not even pms related. I think it's made my pms symptoms WORSE. Only have seen spotting, no actually blood, not even enough to wear a panty liner. Major fatigue, all pms symptoms--mood swings, headaches, etc etc. AGAIN...NO BLEEDING! I'm quite pissed off at myself for letting my OB talk me into this shot like it was some sort of miracle drug before I got all the FACTS I needed. Now it's too late. God only knows WHEN I'll get an ACTUAL period. Or even be able to start trying to have a baby. My fiance and I lost a baby back in summer of 2008. We decided we needed "time" to think things through a bit and that's when I heard about Depo. It seemed like the answer at the time..however, I just turned 36 and I'm really not wanting to push the baby making years any further than I have too. This shot is a nightmare and it should be pulled from the med offices! The "smelling of blood" the one guest described is exactly what I've experienced for 2 months already. It's like a dead blood smell too! Absolutely disgusting and definately not a "turn on" to my fiance. All I want is my CYCLE back!!!

I have been reading all the post on the mess of a medication. I had to have the Depo back in Jan 09. I was told that I had to have it in order to have this procedure done to tie my tubes, and that I had to have it once more until the procedure took total effect. I won't be getting that second shot. I wish that I had done my research. I am not quite as bad as alot of you, and I hope that it doesn't get any worse. I was on my period the day of the shot, and it shut if off like a water facuet. The following week, I started bleeding brown blood, and it had the worse smell. I was put on meds. I was told that is was a bacterial infection caused by the shot. It supposely caused a ph inbalance in my body. Yea right. I took these big horse pills for a week twice a day.
Well it cleared up finally. Now I am spotting everyday and it is always brown just without the smell. i have to wear a pad everyday because I never know. I can tell my body is all messed up now. My sex drive sucks, my attitude is f**ked up, I am always tired and sleepy. What a way to spend Valentine's Day this year!!! They need to take this bull boo boo off the market. >:(

I had the injection and when it came to my second for some reason i didn't get it. Now i have had my period for just over a month. It is HORRIBLE, stick to pills and condoms because it's not worth bleeding for this long.

I started depo provera in sept 08 and had my 2nd shot in dec 08. I have been bleeding since oct!! I am in pain and have all of the other horrible symptoms like migraines and exhaustion. I had to leave work early today because I was gushing blood...thank God i was wearing black. 3 super tampons in 2 hours along with pads did not do the trick. I felt blood streaming down my legs and had to leave work immediately. I felt like I was having a miscarriage (I've had one so I know how it feels). I have talked with my dr and was told that the 2nd shot would stop the bleeding, which it did not. I am so scared because I feel that I have no control over this and have no idea when it will stop. I have been crying while reading these posts because I can relate to the pain each woman is going through! I am afraid to try the pill to stop the bleeding because I am scared it will only make it worse. I will not take the 3rd shot and I pray that my life will return to normal someday. I am so sorry for all that are being terrorized by the depo shot!!

I have to say that I agree with most all of you on here. I would not recommend the Depo shot to anyone!

I took my first depo shot in Feb of 2008 (exactly a year now) and at first it was good. My period was still the same and everything but then I started to bleed all the time. Mostly spotting, but it's every single day. I don't remember the last time I wasn't on a period for a whole YEAR!! It's ridiculous. I only started because my best friend has taken it and she stopped her period after 6 months and hasn't had one since. She gets very occasional bleeding but not very often. But she does get unbearable cramps. I hate taking birth control pills but I am going to look into it and see if I can't start those again because this shot is absolutely unbearable. I hate it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!!

if you read the side effects it says it take about about a year for the shot to work correctly. I am currently reading stuff about this shot too, because I started in December. Yes the bleed causes sexual frustration between the boyfriend and myself, but that's quite ok to me.

Just read further, and make sure that your next form of BC is what your body needs and what you wants! I believe in you!!
