i agree w/ everyone on here.. i absolutely despise this shot!!! it was the worst thing i could ever get in my entire life!! i got it august 2008.. since then i've gained about 30 pounds... back aches from hell.. headaches.. it made my bipolar about 20 times worse... to the point where i didn't even feel like anything was real.. it was scaring me.. depression million times worse... panic attacks are worse than what they already were.. to the point i turn red.. room starts spinning.. and i pass out... it gave me acne and i've NEVER had an acne problem in my life.. i had heavy bleeding for a month when i was due for my next shot.. which i'm due today and i just canceled my appointment yesterday... screw the shot! i've been bleeding for 26 days now and now i wanna know when is it going to end!!!! ahhhh!!!! am i going to look for detox kits today.. this is b/s!! if you look in other forums in comparison to how many ppl actually have no side effects and are okay from the shot.. in comparison to others w/ horrible side effects... it's like a 2 - 20!!!!
then if decreases bone density.. and can basically screw up your reproduction system to the point you may not be able to have kids again??
psh i'd rather just stick to a damn condom.. and if accidents happen.. pfff i'd rather be pregnant than deal w/ the b/s from this shot!!

I just wanted to shed some light after reading this thread on my two experiences.
I have been on Depo this time around for 2 months and haven't been having the best experince by any means. My first injection was in Dec and I didn't have a period for January which was great, but then mid February, I started with some spotting...which a few days later turned into a full period... I am still bleeding 3 weeks later. I spoke to two doctors about this and was advised this is normal for some people. The idea of Depo is that it thins out the lining of your uterus so that there is nothing for a fertilized egg to catch onto. So, what happens if that after me being off Depo for 2-3 years, that lining has built back up over time and now my body needs to shed it while it thins it out. I was told that by getting my second injection early (@ 2 months instead of 3), it should clear this issue up, but it hasn't as of yet, its been a week since my injection. I am not sure how much longer I can handle this as its killing my sex life and while I have a wonderfully understanding boyfriend, it still bothers me.
My first experience with Depo was great, I was on it for 2 years and never had a period, but they tell me now that I am a few years older, my body has changed and its going to react different. Here's to hoping this is a fluke and will be cleared up shortly as the doctors have indicated and I go back to being period free. My only concern with being on Depo the first time is my Bone Density was destroyed. I ended up with the hip age of a 65 year old woman. This has now since been corrected with increased calcium levels over the last 3 years. I choose to go back to the Depo shot because of the less cancer risk. My sister has been battling a very aggressive breast cancer for the last 2 years and it is known that the pill can tend to increase chances of breast cancer, or at least forms of breast cancer which feed off of estrogen. Since Depo does not have estrogen in it, it is a better fit for me... as long as I can get this period thing under control.
I definitely believe there is no right or wrong factor to this form of birth control since i've saw both sides of it. It really does matter on the timing in your life and the makeup of your body. Some people will get along great while others, not so much.

If I knew i would be spotting for 3 weeks which equals to 3 weeks of no sex for me i would never have taken depo.
My shot was due yesterday and i decided against it.
This is not a shot for anyone!
especially for Hispanic females! (that's me) and Im only 19 around 5"3' and 132 lbs
i would really like to know the age and ethnicity of some of these post and see if there are any correlation on whether the depo shot works better on different people

I was on Depo like 10 years ago and I loved it.
I just got back on it about a month ago. My period was 7 days late and I have been bleeding for like 3 weeks! PLUS! The worst part of all....I decided to get on it to "Simplify my sexlife" as well. Anyway due to the way it works...thickening of mucus bla bla bla....my bf says that now "It feels funny" And I feel like a bleeding rejecT! :-( Anyway....Just came on here to see if the bleeding was normal. My period is usually only 2 days! So I thought I would give my two cent's as well since you guys helped me out.
Thanks for your comments.

i had a dnc done on january 27th 09, i had my first shot on the 2nd feb 09 2 wekks after dnc. My shot runs out in 2 days and im not getting the second one, i really dont like the way i feel, emotional cramps sore breasts ect. I am worried as i havent yet bleed through out the three mothhs or now its wearing off in 2 days is this normal???? and when would i expect a period after just one shot (3 months) please help :-(
I had also gotton the depo shot on February 24th after the birth of my second son. I have been bleeding since then, it is now May 6th. I had about 4 days of non bleeding, to which i took advantage of ! I have not had cramping or been extra moody. Other than the bleeding i have been alright. Although, since the sh*t i have had very serious arm pains. They said it was just my body adjusting to the shot, but everytime i straighten it, or over use it, it cramps up and i get lightening sharp pains throughout the entire arm. I wish i would have done some more research before recieving the shot, but i did not, when i go to my appointment for my next shot, i will surely be switching. I just dont know to what yet.
hi everyone i had the depo about 2 months ago now, the first month i was fine i had no bleeding or pain but three days ago i noticed some brownish blood, it was only really light at first but over the last few days its got heavier and returned to normal colour, i've got back ache and normal period pain - i'm worried because my normal periods don't usually last very long and they've always started heavy and got lighter and i've only ever had that brown kind of blood right at the end but this is completely the opposite, should i be worried? i'm never having this injection again. :-(
Well ladies - here is my experiences with Depo Provera:
I was on Depo for several years and had no periods, no spotting, nothing at all the whole time. Fantastic right?! When I started a serious relationship with a guy who had had a vasectomy, I obviously stopped taking any birth control. My periods started back up like usual. No problems at all.
Now, a couple years later I have started back on Depo. I just got my shot a little over a month ago, and when the day came due for my period, it came, but just very light spotting. I have been spotting now for 10 days straight - very unusual, and I have a bad feeling it's not going to go away any time soon, especially after reading some of these posts. If it doesn't go away, I'm not going back for my second shot and I'm going back on the pill, or something.
With all the other birth control options out there, don't go for this one. It's harmful and unpredictable in so many ways and has too many risks that just aren't worth it. If you think the shot is more effective that other methods, IT'S NOT! They all have the same effectiveness if used properly. Good Luck Deciding!

I gave birth in sept 08 and got on the depo two weeks after delivery so that i would be safe i didnt want anymore. it really messes up your body in every way you gain weight, super moody, constant bleeding sometimes for months straight or at random times!! NO SEX DRIVE!! etc. if you are gonna get on the depo you should really consider something different!! it sucks >;)
Ive been taking the depo injection for a couple of years now after having to come off the pill with high blood pressure. I had very heavy painful periods before so this seemed like a godsend.
Just lately the spotting started, just brown in colour. It happens when i think i may want sex which is very rare lately and always two days after i have sex. I have trouble with my weight go dizzy quite often which is scary and backache.
I wondered if it was because i had fibroids before i went on the injection, it would be handy to be able to talk to someone on line about these womens things just to ease our minds.

15 years ago I went on Depo Provera and loved it! No periods or irregular bleeding for the 2 or ss years I used it. Now, I'm on it to help control an ovarian cyst. I got the first shot 9/08 and have been bleeding consistently, with the exception of 2 months, since then. The bleeding may be more spotty to extremely clotty and heavy. The pain from the cyst has been gone completely, thankfully, but the bleeding is making me nuts. My sex life suffers as a result. I hope to find a better solution in the next couple of weeks. I should also mention that due to the bone-density warnings, my PCP has also recommended I get off the depo.
I first got the injection in october 08. Ive had it three times now. So far ive had bleeding in the last month of the three. im due to get it again on the 25th June 09. I had ridiculous stomach cramps that came on yesterday, they were awful. & today i discovered black clotty blood. it isnt the third month yet so it wasnt expected so im worried? anyway had anything similar ?
ok to everyone who replied on this page about the depo..... i don't mean to sound like a jerk but how stupid do you have to be??? it even says on every depo site that you should not be on it long term.... so thats your guyses fault for not reading about it first hand...
