i switched from the pill to the Nuvaring in beginning of august and on the pill i rarely had bad breakouts but since the ring i have the worst acne along my jawline, and around my chin and mouth area. i try to take really good care of my skin by using different scrubs and oil free lotion and by taking a multi vitamin but its still awful. im switching of the ring this month and going back to the pill.
I have tried many different brands of birth control and found that eventually my body would get used to it and my acne would start up again. I did some research and it may be the hormones in birth control, but it could also be hormones in dairy products, eating too much sugar and starch (which is converted into sugar in the body) and a lack of physical activity. Losing weight helped me with my acne and I got more fit too. When I was thin I never got acne, not even as a teen.
I had acne as a teenager, but nothing like I have since starting the NuvaRing. I've been using the NuvaRing for three months and started getting lesion-like acne almost immediately. I have at least 4 large, swollen and nasty cystic spots on my back right now, and I've gotten other ones on my neck, chest and face. I am afraid that these are going scar and have scheduled a follow up appointment with my doctor. I love the relative freedom of the NuvaRing, but I don't know if it's worth this acne. I'm 27 and my acne had finally gone away! It wouldn't be a big deal if the acne wasn't so large and painful.
how long did it take to clear up??
I am on my second NuvaRing and I have broken out on my forehead, neck and jaw line with acne that I haven't seen since I was a young teenage girl (I am now 34). I had been using the Mirena IUD for 5 years and LOVED it! Had no problem with acne at all and then I switched to the Paragard to see what it would be like not to have hormones---worse decision of my life...I had extreme bleeding for a year and continuous BVs. It caused chronic inflammation of my uterus and finally I had it removed in February. I wanted to let my body heal and so I decided to try the NuvaRing, for a few months until I get a new Mirena.
The first NuvaRing I used (back at the end of Feb) caused the same outrageous break out. The week that it was not in my body, my skin cleared up and went back to normal. Well, I just put the new one in last Thursday and BAM--major acne on my neck, jaw line and for head...I can ONLY assume it is the NuvaRing.
I think I will be taking this out and just going back to my Mirena. I cannot stand all the acne!
I experienced this problem months after I started using it, then I was switched to loloestrin and it make the problem so incredibly awful. I was switched again to a generic of loestrin (not loloestrin) and I've noticed a week before the pills run out I'm having the problem. I completely blame nuvaring and do not recommend it to anyone!
