I have used NUvaring for 3 months, but I just took it out today & I am not going to use it again.
I noticed that I get an acne breakout as soon as ther ring is inserted! This is so weird because I used to get one or 2 pimple during my period, but practically never in between, but with Nuvaring I get pimple ONLY when the rign is in, but no pimples when menstruating. I have also felt bloated and some severa headaches & a little of leg pain, with some numbness when sleeping.

I always had clear skin, I would get 1 zit, once a month...

Until Nuvaring...

I had HORRIBLE breakouts. I didn't realize it was from the Nuvaring until I stop taking it. It took a YEAR but now my skin is clear again.

Although while I was on Nuvaring, I lost a ton of weight. I'm 5'7" and went from 120ish pounds down to 110lbs, without changing anything. Since I've come off Nuvaring, I've shot up to 125lbs, my heaviest ever! So there are pros and cons to this birth control.

Same here!

I was on it for over a year, no problems at all, then I went off it in December. I just started a new relationship so I started using the ring again a month ago and I feel like I'm in high school all over again! I used to have terrible skin, but for the last 4 years or so it has been amazing. Pretty choked to recede so badly!

I was so happy when I got my acne under control with proactiv.

A week after I put in my first nuvaring, my skin went to hell. All around my chin and mouth I was breaking out. My forehead, which hasn't been a problem in the past few years, is now bumped with acne.

Im almost ready to quit the Nuvaring, but I read on a forum that skin returns normal in three months.

But to spend so much money on proactiv in the meantime when it wont work?

Depressing!

I've also gotten horrible cystic acne and until reading these posts I wasn't sure if it was the Nuvaring. The inflamed nodules will not clear up after a few months. In fact, mine stayed around for a couple months after stopping the Nuvaring. I took a break from the Nuvaring and just started up again. No problems with the first ring but with the second ring the inflamed nodules have come back, and overnight. I'm quitting the Nuvaring and you should too if you have these symptoms.

I've been on nuvaring for about 8 months now and ever since I've started I've noticed breakouts. Some on my face but more vaginaly. I've never had this problem before, not even on my face! I've always had clear skin but when it happened it wasn't too bad at first but it keeps getting worse and worse. I've been with the same guy for two years now so I know its not something else but I'm worried. I'm embarassed to say something to my doctor but I don't think I can take much more of this. Does anyone else have these problems??

I too have had these same problems. It's interesting to me that this thread was started in 2006 and still the company does not list acne manifestations as one of the possible side effects. It seems like it's prominent enough to me. I wonder if it would help for all of us who have blogged here to write a letter of our experiences to the company. Also, I am curious if anyone has had any luck after going off the nuvaring of resurrecting their once clear (or mostly clear face)?

I also broke out after only using NuvaRing one month. Horrible cystic acne which I have never had my whole life. Not only this, but it made me feel like a lunatic; my heart would race, and I got bad leg cramps that woke me up in the middle of the night. I would go into crying spells and flip out for no reason.

I told my doctor and she told me that this is not a normal reaction and that it could be a blood clot - in fact she was quite defensive about me even bringing up...probably because she GAVE me the ring as a free sample and practically pushed it on me. Be careful some doctors are in bed with the pharmaceutical companies. They receive kickbacks. Sad but true. I wont ever take my doctors word alone again.

In my defense, I did not have these problems before using it. Also, after all the internet research that I have done about this product I think it should be taken off the market. In fact, there are many lawsuits against the company that manufactures it including one that was filed by the family of a woman who supposedly died from using it. This product is very different than a pill. When you take a BC pill it is digested and processed by your liver before it is distributed to your bloodstream. With the NuvaRing, it goes straight to your bloodstream undiluted. It is very potent. They ought to call it the death ring, thats what I call it.

If any of you have the symptoms I had, I strongly encourage you to see a doctor ASAP! Also, file a report with the FDA (government agency that regulates drugs). The link to their website is below.

I always had severe cystic acne through adolescence and adulthood, but I started Apri and then switched to Nuvaring and both kept lesions to a minimum. I was very happy with the results. I was on the Nuvaring for a year.

The acne problems recurred in about 6 months after I stopped using the Nuvaring (and birth control all together). From talking with my friends, it seems that the same birth control medication can have wildly different effects from person to person! I'm going to try it again and see if my skin improves... I'm especially curious to see what happens after reading about so many problems people have had with this medication!

So I've been on the ring for 9 weeks and everything seemed fine until the beginning of my 10th week, I started to breakout in these small red spots with tiny whiteheads on them. Mostly my cheeks, chin, and nose. Nothing cystic-like or anything, but they were rather itchy too. It seems more like an allergic rash, but with whiteheads. I thought it could be the new make-up I was using, but then after reading up about the ring/acne relation, it got me scared so I took it off right away. I have suffered from acne prior to using the ring, but it was starting to calm down tremendously one month before starting the ring. I thought I was finally over my "mid twenties hormonal phase", until I started using the ring again. I used it before when I was 17 for about 2 years and I do rememebr breaking out for a few months, but then having my skin clear up. But as of right now, I would rather not depend on a BC to clear up my skin, because once I go off it, my skin goes out of whack it seems. Then I would have to wait for almost a year to have it normal again. I give up. I wish there was a safe, non-chemical procedure that would rid of your acne FOR GOOD. :'(

I was on NuvaRing for 3 years or so, then went off for several months. I went back on the ring and almost immediately got terrible acne for the first time in my life. I do not want to stay on the ring three months to see if my body adjusts -- it's just not worth the risk of damaging my skin permanently. After going back on the ring, I was also able to detect mood swings that I likely experienced during those years of use. At the time I was unaware that mild depression could have been related to the ring, but after using this month as a test period, I am quite certain that the ring caused the depression/mood swings. Good luck to everyone.
