I am suffering from the same problem. I had typical symptoms of a yeast infection and therefore I went to the drug store for a quick fix. Thinking I would buy the 1 day treatment and it would be gone asap, I went ahead and bought Vagsil - 1 or whatever it is called. Instead of taking it at night I took it during the day around 3. I would say later on that night I noticed it was painful for me to walk and even sit down. I went into the bathroom and noticed my vagina was EXTREMELY swollen. It definitely looked deformed. I was freaking out and wondering if it was an allergic reaction to the medication or cream, but I wanted to wait til morning to see if the swelling went down. When I woke up I was still in the same amount of pain and the swelling, had not worsened but it definitely had not gotten better. I called Planned Parenthood, as I use their clinic for womens health services. After explaining the situation to the woman on the phone, she basically told me it is not exactly an allergic reaction, it is more a reaction to the high concentrate of medicine packed into the ONE DAY yeast infection medications. She informed me that because it is made to work in "one day", almost EVERY person she has spoken with has had this problem. She also said the best bet it to NEVER use the one day cream as it is too concentrated and will often cause this problem. The 3 day cream is the shortest term medicine one should buy for this issue. She explained that it IS "normal" and the swelling should subside in a couple of days. She said I could TRY taking benadryl (sic) but because it is not technically an allergic reaction, it may or may not provide relief.
So ladies beware of the "ONE DAY" cure. It is OVER concentrated with medication and will lead to other issues that take longer than a day to heal. Next time I will be sure to be patient and take a lower concentrated version. They definitely should NOT be allowed to sell this medication over the counter, or at least it should come with a HUGE warning.

omg thank you so much to the guest above. i am FREAKING out right now and it made me feel alot better. has your swelling gone down yet?
Hi ladies,
Although it's painful to think of everyone experiencing these symptoms, it was a relief to read that I'm not the only one who experienced terrible side effects after using Monistat 1. After one day of use I had severe burning and itching, as well as blistering and lesions anywhere the medication had touched. I have never had problems with Monistat 1 but now I wish I had never used it. I was told by my physician there was nothing to be done about this reaction, however sitting in a hot epsom salt bath along with application of polysporin to the lesions and blisters have seemed to really help, so it may just help you ladies too. I really do hope this pain does not last too long for anyone, but I appreciate you all sharing your experience as it eased my mind about everything just knowing I'm not the only one.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

I had a bad reaction to the monostat 1 day, too. i had the same symptoms. horrible burning itching and swelling. i literally just got out a warm bath with about half a cup of vineger added, i soaked a tampon in the water, and put it in then took it right out, just to get the medicine out and i feel 80% better. still experiencing swelling but at least i'm not crying in terrible pain. i truly hope all of you feel better very soon.
I used Monistat 1 yesterday (the ovule and the external cream) I noticed some buring but the box said that's to be expected. When I got up later I noticed my lips were swollen. I instantly tried to remove what medicine was left and washed with cold water and then dried myself with a fan. It helped--the pain was practically non-existant. In a few hours the swelling was down.
I just want to thank each and every one of you for posting and sharing your horrible experiences. I thought I was going to die. I started my period like normal and had it for 3 days. I picked up some scented Always pads called Always Fresh (I don't recommend this product to anyone who is sensitive down below), which I don't normally use. The pads caused me to itch really badly and I became red and raw and it hurt a bit to walk because the plastic was chafing and irritating the delicate skin of my inner, upper thighs. There was nothing I could do about it because I was catching a flight home to CA and was stuck on a plane for over 5 hours. So, thinking this was just a mild irritation and possibly a yeast infection, I used the generic CVS Pharmacy brand of the 3 Day Monistat. This made EVERYTHING worse. Unlike everyone else, I didn't think to try to get the product out of me, and just dealt with it. My rash and chafed skin had sprouted into full fledged lesions and blisters, my labia was swollen SHUT and when I urinated I had both blood, puss and excruciating pain. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN SO MUCH PAIN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I literally cried, day and night. After going to the doctor, I was put on two heavy duty antibiotics which were slow and not too helpful until days of pain and torture and misery later. My belief is that I was having an allergic reaction, a very severe one and unfortunately there wasn't much any of my doctors could do for me. I have just had to wait it out. Its been a week and my swelling has gone down and my lesions and blisters are beginning to heal. But I am still in pain, unable to go to school or work or walk or sit for too long. I WILL NEVER EVER USE ANY MONISTAT (generic or not) PRODUCT AGAIN. EVER! I was better off with the irritation. I found the urination being the hardest part to deal with, so to anyone worried drink lots and lots of water! This helps the burning and pain by diluting your urine, it also helps flush the infection out. Nonetheless, anyone experiencing any of these symptoms from Monistat (or not), should seek medical help immediately. Thanks for everyone's input! It took me a lot of prayer and a lot of time with God to get through what I went through and I wish everyone the best. I would never recommend this product to anyone. EVER.
Hi ladies, I just wanted to share my horrible horrible monistat story with you all. (And yes, it is a little disgusting.)
One day, I woke up with a yeast infection. I seem to get them a lot (or I did at the time) so I was pretty sure what it was. I didn't really have time/money for a doctor so I went to the store and got a monistat product. (it was the capsule). The next day was awful. I couldn't walk, I felt sick, it hurt for just my undies to touch. I was severely swollen, and not to mention I was discharging green. Bright, nasty green. I eventually was in so much pain that I was crying and throwing up that I went in to the ER. The examination that the doctor did hurt more than childbirth did, and I hope to never have to feel that pain again. They ended up giving me some anti-fungal medicine, some benedryl for my allergic reaction to the monistat, and a shot of morphine in the butt so that I could finally rest and to get out of pain. (the wait in the ER was horrible too, I had to sit in an uncomfortable chair in unbearable pain for 3 hours...)
For anyone who's thinking, "Maybe this will pass, I'll just try to live through it," DON'T. Seek medical attention ASAP. Even if it means going to urgent care. It WILL get worse and it may even cause further, permanent damage.

you guys, the first girl that posted this that had diarrhea had an allergic reaction for sure, but monistat cream when it runs out will itch like a MOTHER. so dont scratch, wait it out thats normal, i got the same thing, i couldnt resist scratching and im now swollen as well, dont scratch it!! if u feel dizzy and ur having diarrhea, ur allergic should go to the doctor asap, otherwise, some swelling is normal, ESPECIALLY if u scratch it. when the cream runs down, try to wipe it off w/out rubbing! good luck ladies (being a girl sucks sometimes doesnt it)
Hey Ladies, I had a root canal on the 15th, was prescribed a 10 day bi daily dose of amoxicillan. Well by the 24-25, my vagina was completely itchy and I tingeled, not burned, when I peed. I didn't really notice any discharge because I always have a tiny bit. I saw that my entire region was completely swollen and had some white discharge not to mention it looked as if I blistered, looked like cheese on the inside of the vaginal lips. I bought the monistat 1 cream. Inserted that night, the 25th, and around 4 am...woke up in excrucating pain. I had bought the vagisil wipes and they did nothing. I was crying so bad and trying to wipe the cream that was draining. I took a benadryl and eventually passed out from the pain. The following day, not so much pain but I did buy the vagisil max strength itching cream. Worked good, but that night around 2 am, the pain returned to the point where I had scratched myself in my sleep that I make myself bleed and had to put an ice pack between my legs the whole night. Horrible. Never use monistat 1. Best bet is to buy the 7 day treatment along with anti itch cream, and also I noticed that I feel no itching when I put some desitin on it. Be careful ladies, so agenda for me is to now buy the vagisil screening kit, some more benadryl to help me sleep and take an epsom salt bath and ice pack it at night.
Wishing everyone luck on a fast recovery, would greatly appreciate some in return!!!!

Absolutely UNBEARABLE! THe burning itching was unlike anything I had EVER experienced - I really was concerned I had something going on that was really bad but I have been abstinent for 3 years and no STDs ( I get checked annually). I made my roommate stand with me for while I soaked in the bath tub and I almost got her to take me to patient first or the ER. It lasted about 1 1/2 hours. DEFINITELY take the time and money to go see your doctor and get the prescription for the oral meds. IT'S NOT WORTH THE RISK!!! I have taken monistat at least 5 times before this and have never had a reaction until now, so BEWARE! I repeat, IT'S NOT WORTH THE RISK!!! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
I had a similar problem after using the 1 day treatment: tremendous pain! My doctor suggested that nearly frozen milk (put it in the freezer and take it out when it's clumpy/ frosty but not solid) would alleviate the pain of a yeast infection. It worked! I froze the milk in a bowl and then used a big spoon to apply it.
I used the off brand before bedtime on saturday and I woke up at 6 and it felt swolen, i tried to take a shower to get the stuff off me and i couldn't its so painful I can't even touch it and I'm hoping it goes away on its own! I did not get the one with a pill, I only used the cream so my alergic reaction was definately to the cream I don't know what to do.
I had the same problem with the Monistat 1 vaginal suppository. It was so bad I had to go to the ER. They couldn't even do a pelvic exam because of the extent of the allergic reaction. They ended up giving me a shot in that area to reduce the swelling and then had to flush everything with normal saline. I was then instructed to go home and take a long bath and try to get the remaining cream out. It was horrible. However, less than 24 hrs later I am feeling 100% better and will never spend 20 dollars on that product ever again. I suggest going to the doctor and getting the oral yeast medication of using the preventative pills for yeast infections (if you get them often). The preventative pills are located near the monistat and they work wonders.
I’ve had a couple of yeast infections in the past months, usually around my period, and would take Monistat 1 to try and cure it. It seemed to work pretty well the first few times although I did notice and increased sensitivity with each use, but just last week I started to get that sensation again, which struck me as odd because I had just gotten over my last one. I took Monistat again and made a mental note to contact my OB/GYN (like I should have done originally). But this time was different, the itch from the yeast infection started to go away but it was replaced by a mild burning sensation. This had somewhat happened before but this time it kept getting worse! I had taken the dose on Wednesday at around 11 and by Friday morning my crotch was super swollen and tender. I started to panic but I figured it was just a weird reaction to the Monistat. By Saturday I could feel tender bumps (like really bad razor burn) by my vaginal opening and it was excruciating when I urinated. Finally Sunday morning I was so sick with worry that I called the local Planned Parenthood (my OB/GYN is very close friends with my mother and I was worried about her finding out) and made an appointment for today. I went in this morning and told the nurse about the yeast infection and how I only stated getting the bumps after the Monistat, she did an exam and was throwing around words like HERPES and STD and I had a panic attack! I'm in a committed relationship, and we have only ever had sex with each other (that I'm aware of) so I started asking about other options, but the nurse just gave me that look that said "He probably cheated". So now I have these small sores around my vagina, and am being told that it’s likely that the man that I love not only cheated on me but gave me an STD! But I can't imagine him doing that! We have an incredibly exciting relationship and I really can't imagine him stepping out! While she was doing the exam she took a culture and asked me if it hurt while she was swabbing and when I told her no it didn’t at all she looked incredibly surprised! She somewhat smiled and told me then it likely wasn’t herpes because I would be in a lot of pain from the swabbing. I didn’t know whether to feel relieved or cry! She had already planted the doubt in my mind so I really didn’t believe her then. I really wish that I had looked up allergic reactions to Monistat before going there because I would have felt much more comfortable armed with other women’s similar reactions, and maybe I wouldn’t have spent all day believing the worst of my boyfriend. The nurse says that I should get a call with the results of the culture within the week, but I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one who has had this reaction. Maybe I will be able to make it till I hear the results after all! I was so stressed that I was almost passing out! I know one thing for sure: I'm NEVER using that demon drug again! Regardless of the test results!
I have been going through a nightmare all week with this same problem. I went to the gyno yesterday and the swelling and blisters that it has caused made them even wonder if this was Herpes!! I have been married 18 years...um...I better NOT have Herpes!! Anyhow, the swelling just changes from day to day with no end in sight. This has been the worst week I have had medically in my entire life. I will never use this product again.
