Same thing, here!! I've had mine about 9 months. Always itches. When I look in the mirror, I see nothing! It's driving me crazy. I hate to go to a doctor, well, nothing there, just itches all the time.

If there is a rash with itching and burning- it sounds like shingles. Get to your dr. There are things that can help.

This is crazy! That's how I've tried to describe this super weird sensation! Or like there's a hair a a few hairs trying to poke out of my skin. It doesn't hurt. It doesn't itch me. I'm just very..my...."Aware" of that small patch of skin on my left shoulder, basically on top of my trap muscles.
My first experience was when I was in college. It was a smaller area just to the right of my spine in the middle of my back. Nothing was ever there?! When I was feeling it, I would ask friends or family members to look at this spot! And every time- nothing!
I can't say for sure, but I did start noticing that I could indeed feel this weird, kinda tingly, kinda not, kinda numb, but kinda not, spot of skin the morning after I had drank beer. But always the same exact spot!
That has come & gone, but very infrequently.
In the last week or so, I started being very "Aware" of the current patch of skin that has very odd sensations on my left shoulder/to the left of base of neck. This one I remember feeling a kind of burning sensation a few days ago. It made me think maybe I was turning my neck in an awkward position for too long? But.......that explanation still doesn't add up.
I'm very active and workout 5 days a week and I've never experienced this feeling?!

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe I am not alone in the world! I have had this problem for years too. Drives me insane. It's an itchy area on my left shoulder blade. No bites, rashes, discolouration, nothing. However, if my husband takes a pin to that general area, there are definitely some numb spots. So my guess is that it's a nerve issue.

I have this intense itching on the left lower shoulder blade also that comes and goes. I have had back surgery for spinal stenosis and have reoccurring sciatic nerve problems which could be root cause. Recently the itching resurfaced and I think it may be due in part to my chronic coughing due to bronchial asthma which puts a strain on my neck and shoulder muscles/nerves.

What is notalgia paresthetica?
Notalgia paresthetica (NP) is a common sensory neuropathic syndrome of the mid-back skin, characterized by localized pruritus (itching) beneath the shoulder blades. NP may also affect the upper back, scalp, and shoulders. Chronic pruritus is sometimes accompanied by pain, paresthesias, or altered sensation to touch.
This particular type of neuropathy is thought to be caused by a problem with the neck, such as degenerative disc disease (i.e., osteoarthritis), bulging disc, pinched nerve, or muscle spasm. Notalgia is more common in adulthood (in persons aged 40-80) and tends to occur more in individuals who have a lower threshold to itch, including those with multiple sclerosis or other autoimmune conditions.

I have this exact problem in the exact same spot! Leat shoulder blade, right in the spot I can't reach! Nothing visible, I've probably had it about 6 months.

Be careful. It could be the beginning of pancreatitis so go get it checked out. Especially if you have pain when you sleep on your left side.
