OMG My Friends! I have had that awful itchy irritating mess beneath my left shoulder blade for a month now. Went to the doctor when it first started and he just could not see anything but prescribed me a cream anyway. I took so many things and nothing worked. But thank goodness for the kindness of strangers! In line at the grocery store the person standing behind me saw that I kept trying to scratch the most unreachable place ever on my back. She offered to help me. I thought she was offering to give me a scratch but instead she told me to do this exercise 3 times a day... Lift my hands in the air above my head stretching my arms as far as they will go, trying to touch the clouds. hold this pose for as long as I can stand it. Then in one smooth movement with hands still outstretched, bend over to touch your toes. Hold it there for as long as you can stand it, making every effort to touch your toes and even go beyond and touch the floor eventually. She told me she is a chiropractor and know the symptoms of Notalgia Paresthetica. She said by doing this exercise you open up the C4 vertibrae and relieve those nerves. She said stretching like this on a regular will eventually make all the symptoms go away until the nerves heal. I have been doing the exercise for 3 days now, 4 times a day and the itching and pain is starting to subside. Last night I slept with more peace than ever! Guys I hope this works for you too.

I know this is a late reply but consider if you're using LEDs nearby because those emit uv radiation which can cause skin cancer so if you do use LED lamps i'd consider switching back to your old filament lamps

I also had this and went to a chiropractor who found that I had pinched nerves in my neck. I got an adjustment and acupuncture twice. No more itching!!!

I've experienced this on my right side above my shoukder blade for over 25 years. Sometimes I scratch it so much that it turns a dark color...but most of the time it's invisible. For years, I've said I'm going to get a tattooed circle right around the pea sized area so my hubby can know right where to scratch lol. I've always wondered why I have this chronic itchy spot.

The deep intense itch that is almost painful that also causes numbness is often due to a neck injury. It could also be from a tumor pressing against a nerve. I have the "itch" and it's almost unbearable at times.

I've had the same itchy spot on my chest for several years. About the size of a mosquito bite but no discolouration or bump or anything. I finally got pissed off and heated up a penny nail to red hot, holding it with vice grips, and stuck it into the itchy spot about a half inch into the center of the spot. It don't itch anymore but just hurts like hell.
