I personally didn't benefit from the spirulina, or the hydrogen peroxide. I finally just had to start eating carbs again as it was the only way I could get the darn rash to go away. The best thing that worked for me was applying lamisil cream to the rash, but there might be a cheaper prescription if you see a doctor. I never did. I just wish I could understand why this happens!

thank you , thank you , thank you. I have been dealing with this rash now and have been sooo frustrated. I was blaming it on medicines, but I feel better knowing I'm not along. I'm going to get some Spirulina tonight.

okay well like all of you i searched forever about why i got crazy itchy bumps and welts everytime that i started losing weight on a no carb high protein diet.....and...

the solution IS-

allergies to SUCRALOSE/SPLENDA...

check the ingredients on the protein powders or other things youre eating, WHILE TRYING TO GET HEALTHY, and see that they have splenda or sucralose...things like airborne for colds, some mouthwashes, diet sodas  but mainly the damn powder we might be using.....people this is the REAL reason...it has been mentioned on this board but yet people missed it and are buying spirulina or whatever, going to dermatoligists who have not a clue..

check google and look at bodybuilders sites and the acne they often have and the sweetening ingredients of their supplements (splenda)...

look at the ingredients of everything you put in your mouth, and for TWO WEEKS no splenda and you wont have any of that crazy itchiness that dermatogilists (sp) don't know about yet......just try and you'll see it's the reason...ive been so happy to have established this in my case, and hopefully yours...good luck to all

DW, I'm frantically searching for the answer to my itching-all-over after a week on Atkins. Sleeping is difficult. There's a little rash on my face. I've never used any artificial sweetener and haven't started using any protein powder. It's just been more protein, like eggs for breakfast, no sugar or flour products. I'd like to think it's the "mast cell degranulation", and would like to think that if I run to the store today for spirulina, I'll get some help. Your post was most discouraging. Maybe the advice to have some cooked Kashi or a few Finn rye crackers is good.

Anyone out there have more suggestions?

WOW! This is really tough (For everyone). I tried the sprilina 6 months ago and it did nothing to stop the rash i did when doing fat fast. Now, I'm currently doing a 28 day water fast and now is the fifth day and I'm started to itch on my face ( which indicates a rash starting.)

So fustrated!

So someone on here thinks its due to the sweetners. I cant quite agree because I use sucralose when not on a diet and I get no rash. Saying that I have been using the sweetner on my fast. So ok i'll try removing it from my diet and see what happens. But I think I already know.

I really feel your fustration. Did you sucralose during your low carbing?

What you're saying is interesting. But did you, like me use sacrolose when not dieting and not have a reaction to it. Because if you DID then you may have a good point in my case.

been looking at this page for AWHILE...figured it out, at least in my case...turns out it was serious dehydration...heavy to start with (hence the diet)...worked out, ate less, didnt drink enough....whole body was itching from the irritation of the fat in our bodies not getting enough water...in my case, i troubleshot sucralose, gluten, etc....but still itching...then it occured to me one day when a co-worker told me my rash looked alot like her sisters on her legs, but she said the doctors were dealing with her on a kidney problem.. had a eureka moment...began drinking 6 liters of water a day, while leaving rest of atkins diet alone, and amazingly rash went away and has stayed away for 3 weeks...just from dehydration...hey i know the MISERY this is, but for at least my case i found something that worked

veronica wrote: Maybe some, but not frequently. I figured out in my case it is a skin yeast infection. I have had candida problems since I OD'ed on antibiotics several years ago and when I'm low-carbing, I think too much yeast is released from my fat cells and it manifests as a rash on my skin. The proof is that Lamisil and Lotrimin (both antifungal creams) both get rid of the rash for me. My case is probably unique, but I'm glad to know what my problem is. Also, I started taking Swanson's Ultimate Probiotic formula, which has 66 billion live organisms per capsule, daily and that keeps yeast infections away. I had a chronic yeast infection for four years before I started taking it four months ago and it is the only thing that has gotten rid of it permanently, but I do have to keep taking them daily or it comes back.

Ok, seems like you've got a hang of it. For me right now I'm just trying trial and error. I got some lamisil today so we'll see what happens there. I'm still water fasting and the rash is getting worse as I expected it would. I now know its not due to food cos i'm not eating any.

I was reading how uric acid bluid up during ketosis can lead to skin rash, so I'm also going to try and reduce the uric acid in my blood.

k0823725 - BINGO! Finally got a cure!

its four months since my last post, iv'e tried so many things and finally something has worked. Thank God.

Every time i went into ketosis a few days later i would come out in a horrible rash on my face. But not this time. Its sounds odd and to some a bit scary, but I used a steriod cream called Scheriproct Ointment ( Prednisolne). So far,so good. And ive had no side effects from the cream as of yet. Though you are only to use it for a maximum of 7 days. However, it seems to only take 3 days to work. Really happy. Mind you, to get the cream in the UK you do need a prescription ;-(. I had to get my mum to tell her doctor she had piles..haha

Like many here, I am happy I found this post. I would, however, like to get us on a better track to solving this problem.

1. Candida or fungal or bacterial explanations. This is easy to check by using an anti-fungal cream (anything for jock-itch or athletes foot + antibiotic cream.) I've tried both to no effects. My dermatologist also did a biopsy and saw no presence of fungus or bacterial infection.

2. Detox theory. Toxins do not exit your body through sweat like many posts seem to imply. If the break down of fat releases toxins, these would be cleaned up by your liver. In my case, the rashes persist even though my weight has stabilized for over a year. The break down of fat is not the cause of the rash, something else is going on here.

Hope that helps in some way, please respond with your experience.
