I have been getting this for the last maybe a year. Once or twice (maybe more) times during my period, I'll find a clot. I thought of zombie movies, it was that creepy. They weren't all that big, about 3-4 inches, like you guys.

However, this week, I have had two (within a three day period of time) clots that are extremely larger. They fill up overnight pads, they are that big. I never thought this was abnormal because my mom and sister never want to talk to me about this kinda of stuff, even though I'm feeling really concerned. I have never gone to any of the doctors women go to see (I'll be 20 in a month) mostly because I don't want anyone talking to me about this stuff or touching me.

I'm not and never have been pregnant, so that's not really helpful.

I guess I'll make an appointment now though.

To this lady whose doctor told her there was no chance of endometriosis because she has had children, I urge you to drop that quack and go see another doctor.

My endometriosis was diagnosed when I was having a tubal ligation after the birth of my second child! My doctor video taped the procedure and showed it to me! It is possible to have endo and have had children depending on the level of the condition you're experiencing. I've had two children and have endometriosis.

You know 45 clots is not normal! I cannot tell you what's wrong or if anything serious is, I am not a doctor, but please go see someone if your periods have continued this way. Please see another doctor. Do not go back to that one.

I have never heard of and did a search for this and found nothing on it; about a normal woman's ovary shutting down once a year like it's going on vacation. I found some info on ovary shutdown due to medications and surgery but not in the natural and not once a year like Christmas.

Was this a real doctor? Are you real? If you are, please see another doctor as soon as possible.

Aspirin will make you bleed more. You can take pain relievers like Tylenol that do not contain aspirin during your period.

Hi, I have very heavy bleeding and blood clots, and bleeding that's been going on for 3 & four weeks, only to stop for a couple of weeks then start again. I went to my ob/gyn doctor, she sent me for an ultrasound and did all kinds of blood tests. I had surgery last year to remove fibroid, but since I had some normal periods after it, she said it probably wasn't related. She said it was probably "anovulatory" bleeding, meaning I didn't ovulate, and so my uterus lining just grew and grew, and it was probably caused by hormonal imbalance. That now my blood vessels in the lining were all irritated and bleeding and my cycle was all off. She said normally they treat it by putting a person on the pill for one month to kick-start the cycle, but since I had a blood clot in my lungs, she couldn't give it to me. So she gave me provera (no estrogen), which has almost completely stopped the bleeding, and has referred me to a specialist. We'll see what they say....

My sister had for years, extremely heavy bleeding and very bad cramps with her periods. She had not gone to a doctor about this eevn though advised to by the family and just lived with it. One day at work she fell to knees in pain and drove herself to hospital. They said she had so many of those fibroids they formed two grapefruit size balls. The pain she had just experienced was one of them burtsing. They schedule her for surgery to have a hystorectomy because of the other and maybe because she had already had kids and was now 40.

I used to experience the same problem with passing large menstrual clots and having very heavy, painful periods. This happened regularly, and once i had to go to the emergency room and have a D&C performed to stop the bleeding. My doctor and my gynecologist both said that it was just NORMAL for some women to be like that. But I refused to believe that there was nothing they could do. I went to see an Acupuncturist a couple of years ago, and after a series of treatments and chinese herbs, I can say that my period is now regular, I rarely have any clotting, and the pain has reduced significantly. I wasn't a believer of Chinese medicine before, but I would recommend this to everyone now!

My acupuncturist told me that they see a lot of women with similar conditions, and that in Chinese medicine, this kind of gynecological condition has been known for thousands of years, and they have developed very effective treatments. I don't understand all of it, but what it comes down to is having your internal system in balance.

Stress is the number one causative factor in women for a lot of menstrual symptoms. Stress upsets the internal balance of yin and yang, and affects the way our menses flows.

hope this helps!

I went to the doctors and it was fibroids, please don't self-diagnose get professional treatment, if your normal doctor won't go somewhere else after all you know your body better than anyone else.

I have to disagree if "more" means heavier. Aspirin does not make you bleed more. It merely makes you bleed "thinner". If your normal blood flow (output) is 2 ounces per period, your output will remain 2 ounces even after taking Aspirin. Aspirin is an anticoagulant (it reduces/stops the blood from clotting) that "thins" the blood - all the blood in the body.

Taking aspirin just before or during bleeding can help reduce the amount of clots that have to pass the cervix (by preventing clots from forming in the first place). Passing a clot is where the pain comes from. For me, the pain is similar to labor pains. It even ebbs and flows like contractions.

A few doses of aspirin may increase the days of bleeding. Think of this formula:

blood thickness x's blood flow (slow/med/fast) = days of bleeding

thinner blood x's same blood flow = increased days of bleeding

For me, it's completely worth one extra day of light flow at the end to get some relief from passing clots. I still have to take pain meds for "normal" cramping, but clot cramping is on a whole other level and aspirin helps me avoid that level.

Be careful with aspirin!! It's not for everyone! Not all menstrual clots should be ignored or self-medicated either! Consult your doctor especially if you have any medical condition. At the very least, start off slowly with baby aspirin (81mg), take small amounts, and take as directed.

Hey Girls,

I am a RN major and I can tell you what may be happening. what happens during a menstrual cycle is the inside lining of your uterus (that has been built up over 28 days) is sloughing off. So for the person who said the clot looks like skin, then it is because it is. Now in a normal period it would slough off very little at a time and look like a period. however, it sounds to me that you girls are having irregular sloughing. No punt intended. This whole mechanism is controlled by hormones. The cramping is from Oxytocin in your brain telling your uterus to contract more rapidly just as it would in labor to get rid of the clots. It doesn't sound to me like it is severe. And the doctors are probably ignoring it for this very reason. If your any of the three hormones that control the ovarian/menstrual cycle are low or high then your body with compensate. Therefore, if one of the hormones is off and causing rapid sloughing off of the uterine lining then you will have more cramping. That said, for this to happen once every now and then is one thing, but if you are experiencing it recurrently I would definitely get things checked out. Perhaps the doctors are not understanding how often this is happening is a problem. I would complain more and make sure they understand that it is a recurrent problem. Also, medicines can cause this especially any type of birth control because after all it controls everything by inducing synthetic hormones. If you are on a type off birth control I would first try changing it and if you are not I would try getting on one at least long enough to straighten out your system. Sometimes that is all it takes and then you can go back to the way you were before with no problems. Our bodies get out of wake sometimes. But please do not ignore these symptoms because there is always a possibility that it could be something more severe. If your doctor will not give you an answer or at least run some tests then I would get a second, third or fourth opinion. There are some cracks out there, but there are also good ones. I hope this has helped you guys out a little.

Good luck.

I am 34 years old. I have had 3 abortions in my life. The last one was more than 10 years ago, however I too have noticed for about the last 5 years I have had some giant clots and what seems like an endless period at times with spotting in between heavy cycles and sometimes nothing at all for months. It seems to ease up when I change my diet but not always. I have been guilty of eating too much fast food but have changed that and now only eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, and am very careful of the meat or chicken I eat due to the hormones injected which triggers more bleeding and which greatly affect this condition as it is closely related to hormonal changes as well as a host of other things such as fibroids, growths, large uterus, polyps, and things of that sort. Endometriosis is a reason and being anemic can contribute which causes low iron. I am anemic also and naturally have very low iron but iron pills can cause me to have an iron overdose so I eat a lot of spinach and tabouli. Greens are what we need ladies. Eat wheat grass and detoxify the system. Regulate the thyroid, drink water and exercise as much as you can. It may help you. It is helping me.

Every since the birth of my second son, this has been a regular thing for me. Each month seems to get worse. My periods are longer, more painful, and the clots are outrageously enormous in size. I just had one to really scare me, too. It was about the size of a plum. If anyone finds out anything that could help, please let me know.

Yes Ladies, this is all a result of Fibroids, which come from hormonal imbalances in your system. Ask the doctor to test you for fibroids and decide what you want to do to get rid of them.

Thanks for sharing your story. I was also diagnosed with fibroid and I'm only 24. We have the same story literarily...I took the lupron injection and I have never been more angry and aggressive in my whole life like I was during that period while I took the injection. I dont have any kids yet so I'll wait till I'm ready to have kids before I take the fibroids out. What did you do to yours?
