Does any member of this forum happen to be the proud owner of a siberian husky? I have been thinking about buying one of these beautiful dogs and have been looking around for a local breeder already. I still want some of the basic details about siberian huskies, like what the life expectancy of siberian huskies is. Can anyone tell me?
My wife and I just adopted our fourth siberian husky in our 23 year relationship. With proper care, both home environment, good vets, lots and I mean LOTS of exercize, and most of all, love, a husky can live into the early teens. You should certainly expect a ten year relationship. One caveat: these huskies, especially males, are prone to epileptic seizures. This usually starts around age 4-6. Medication helps, but it can be costly, depending on your income. Less drastically, but also important to realize is that huskies grow significant winter coats and shedding is inevitable. I don't mean a few hairs here and there. I'm talking large chunks of fur. Silver lining: song birds love the fur to thatch their nests.
