I just had 1st 2nd &3rd toe fused metatarsus fusion, bone grafts off heel, and cadaver donor bone, 2 pins.... 2nd surgery, 1st was in 2003. 2nd surgery dec 16th (2013). Seperate to this I'm a chronic pain sufferer, ( lumbar facets) for 6+ years. I have done factory work most my adult life, welded the last 12 years. And worked steady all my life until last few years as my quality if life/work ability has came to a standstill. I have an 8th grade education, I applied for ssdi, and was wondering if anyone in similar situation has received help via dissability?

Hello Chunkamonk.  I know of many people that have applied for SSDI and received it, a lot of the time, from a mental illness.  Others have had injuries that keep them from working. That being said, I am told that the first time of applying, people are always denied.  It would behoove you to obtain an attorney who has done this type of thing many times.  You are sure to get it then if you have representation.  I wish you good luck in getting SSDI and  you get relief from your pain.

Has anyone applied for disability and if so, did you have to apply several times before you got it?

Thanks for the reply, I heard exactly what you said as well. I've prayed to the big man upstairs in hopes that it wouldn't come to that. Guess I'll just cross that bridge when I get there if it comes to that. Just angers one when you worked all your life, and I'll go from 18.00 an hour to roughly 700 a month, I've been trying to get a g.e.d. But it seems I have a learning curve, I probably would have known I have some issues on that , but being young and making bad choices , I was too cool for school. Like I said I'm pretty much a one trick pony, my employer really took a liking to me and invested in me, and over the years I worked my way into being a welder, but at 42 and having a family that depends on me, I'm terrified on what we're going to do, these are scary times as it is with employment , and I'm ashamed but honest to say , I don't know anything else I can do at this point other than labor type work. And that's impossible for me to do anymore. I can't stand or sit for longer than 30-45 min without having to lay down for a spell ...

I can fully understand that going from a nice income down to $700 a month makes it rough. I was going to ask if you could do something like truck driving, but you cannot sit for very long either? I wish I knew of some other options for you. Unemployment hovers over every region of the U.S. and even people with special skills are having trouble finding work. I wish you well and I hope something works out for you in the long run, whether improved health or better opportunity for work. If I can think of anything else, I will let you know. Good luck, dear sir.

Ya truck driving wouldn't work, the DUI that my injury stemmed from kinda put the breaks on that, not to mention I have to stop every 2 hrs when traveling to move around... I don't know a lot of peaple on disability , probably cause I'm young, but I've seen peaple get help with benefits with a lot less going on than me. I do want to go back to school, but it's not going to be a overnight thing. I heard that peaple that suffer from chronic pain also have concentration issues? Makes spence to me cause when your in pain it's sometimes impossible to focus!!
