Diet & exercise is NOT the answer for People taking HC!
I’m in Vancouver, with SAI due to many years of steroid puffer use for asthma. It’s definately been hard, and I feel like spend half my time tracking calories. Hate it. There are support groups here. I have to admit though, the best source of information is the UK Addisons website. Get a membership with them and you will find many people there with lots of experience.
Thank you, that actually what I was thinking. Everyone is talking about exercising. I'm lucky I have energy to get out of bed!! I hardly eat and I've gain so much weight. It's so depressing.
I am really interested in how this is working for you? So if you do not take your hydrocortisone one day you do not feel tired the next? I have addison's as well, but the weight gain is super hard for me...
I really liked your post! I am 54 and have Addisons and I have weigh gain in my adomen. I feel like endocrinologist really do not know all the side effects. It is intresting to me that you are only on 7.5-10 HC a day. Do you take a dose in the morning and in the afternoon?
Im having the same issue. I weighed about 130 two years ago and now I'm over 200 pounds on this drug. I recently down graded to a lower dose and now I'm losing a little but not much. I work out and eat very little sometimes allowing myself to go hungry. Its frustrating to know this is going to be for the rest of my life. in addition to all the other drugs i have to take.
I WAS diagnosed with Addison’s disease last year. I put on lots of weight. I was on nearly 40mg of hydrocortisone. I spoke to my doctor about it. And she put me on to a medical dietitian. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. They will help you lose weight. I have lost nearly 10kg in the last month. It’s slow. But it works.
Thank you! I just got diagnosed with Addison’s Disease and I’m only three days into medication. I’m freaking out by the number of people here reporting weight gain. :(
Texasmom. I am also from Texas and i have had addison's Disease for 23years taking 25mg daily of hydrocortisone. And also have gained a lot of weight. I am always moving because I am raising 4 great grandchildren two with autism. Haven't lost weight with all the moving but my point is find something to live for and it will get your mind off the pain you my have. God Bless you good luck
I am living on hydrocortisone now 20 to 30 mg daily. I have adrenal failure. I am 5ft tall and weighed 115. Now a month after taking hydrocortisone weigh135!!! This is my life now!
Is it possible to lose weight on this? Feel like you all say, pregnant!

Dr put me on 30 mg a day! Went from 115 to 135 in a month. I have adrenal failure. I have been told by other docs this is dangerous. So i have started lowering to 15 per day staggered throughout the day 10:00 3:00 7:00. Feel tired but, doing fine.
Would love to lower it more!

You should follow diet and exercise routine. It really helps to maintain health.
You have no idea what you're talking about...
I can't agree more with this. I live with Addison 22 years, when I was first diagnosed I got some extra kilos, but you are OK after some weeks. I am on 40 MG hydrocortisone (20+10+10) my weight is normal follwing healthy food and often sport practicing. Remeber: addisonians take :ydrocortisone because there is lack of it in the body not as thereapy medication. God bless u all, greetings from sunny Greece
This is right too. Natrium is the holy grail for addisonians. Not too much of course, but we need it. And don't forget: there is no standard dose for hydrocortisone for Addison disease. The dose is individualized (if this is the correct word). I was on 25mg for a long time but my acth was still high. Acth is what TSH is for ypothyroism. Now as I said I am on 40 MG and my acth came normal. I feel great and have no weight problems. Take care all of you
