My husband has recently been put on lithium and is just getting up to the baseline dosage for effectiveness, we have a problem, if he goes off the meds then he becomes incredibly bitchy, and i cant seem to do anything right, which kills my sex drive and one of these days might get him a rolling pin upside the head, thats how bad he gets, however, the meds work for short periods till he adjusts and he is wonderful man i fell for, and of course my sex drive returns, only to be shot down, since he has no real need for it, its more apathy is how he describes it......and believe me i have tried all the tried and true ways to attract a male.......this is a 30 yr old that used to have to have sex 3-6 times a day, hell he would jerk off on the way to work, i miss that man but am at a loss. we are switching mental health doctors since this one isnt so bright it took 4 months to get him up to the min effective dosage as documented on med sites and family physician.........is there meds out there that can be prescribed to give him his sex drive back? if we have an idea what to ask for then we might not get the run around.... help? viagra isnt the issue, all parts work but his interest isnt there....
Hi there! I understand your concern completely. The sex is way too important in a relationship to be neglected. My husband and I , we are facing quite the same problem, he's not taking any medication but everyday work is killing us. All we do when we get home is talk and go to sleep. I also miss those days when "we were young" and we are still in out TWENTIES! I read that one of the most common side effects that can occur in persons taking lithium is decreased libido. Also I found that treatment of decreased libido depends on the cause of the condition. For some men, adopting a healthier lifestyle, such as exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and/or limiting alcohol, can help resolve the problem. Since your husband is taking lithium maybe there is a treatment for that side effect, but unfortunately you won't find it on the forums. Talk to his doctor about the problem, since that's one of the most common side effects there must be a solution. Hope this will help you and he'll get better soon.
